Overall, this was a fantastic hotel and if we go back to Ouray in the winter, we will definitely be staying here again.
Pros:
-amazing spa with sauna, big jacuzzi, cold plunge, and changing rooms.
-historic hotel, renovated with modern amenities
-staff was amazing
-plush robes and slippers provided in room
-overall very clean
Cons:
-we had both windows open and our room was at 79 degrees all night. Having air conditioning is honestly a must. Every other window on our floor was open too.
-shower only had 1 door and that resulted in one having to stand very close to the wall so as to not get water outside the shower
-window screen was missing from one of our windows
-bathroom only had small shelf for toiletries
Safety: Felt very safe.
Walkability: Very walkable, didn't have to drive to get to shops/restaurants along main street.
Food and drinks: Restaurant onsite.

The food is great the ambience is awesome but the staff… THE BEST!!!
Some friends and I brought in the New Year there and we were accommodated beyond expectations. Loved the atmosphere and speciality cocktails. Might be our new tradition. Highly recommend for a romantic getaway or a fun group gathering.

Me and my husband went to this restaurant a couple of times while staying in Ouray. We didn’t have time to be there for a night but plan to in the future.
It’s absolutely beautiful and the location is perfect. About 200 feet off of Main Street.
The food was amazing and the prices match anywhere else in town.
The atmosphere is very relaxed and pleasant with the low lights and soft music. And on top of everything, the service is very exceptional. They are quick and friendly and make sure you have everything you want.
Definitely recommend and will be back!
Food and drinks: Drinks are also very good!

Classic old western hotel modernized with conveniences you would expect. Great bar. Fabulous restaurant and an amazing hot springs grotto which is a must do during your stay. If traveling in the area, do not pass up an opportunity to spend a night or two here.

I’ve been coming to Ouray for 30 years and have seen this hotel go through a lot of changes. They totally nailed it this time and I’m so excited to have experienced the transformation for hand as a guest . The saloon is perfect and I highly recommend sitting at the Chef’s table for dinner . It’s a total experience for the senses and the cuisine is delicious. I stayed in one of the balcony suites and it was amazing . Huge balcony with a fire pit and majestic views . Inside was spot on with a fireplace and tons of space and thought out into the guest experience . And then there’s the spa …. I didn’t get to spend time there this time but did a little tour and it was very inviting . I will definitely be back soon!

I cannot recommend The Western enough! We stayed here for our honeymoon and knew we had to come back for our first anniversary. The new spa is stunning, and the restaurant/bar is incredible.

We had a wonderful two night stay at the western hotel. The staff was amazing and everyone went out of their way to make our time there special. Suzanne recommended we eat one evening at the restaurant at the chefs table. The food and cocktails were unbelievable and very reasonably priced! Our server made us a cocktail exchanging the usual liquor with our favourite, tequila which was a special touch. The room itself was awesome. Looks exactly like the pictures, it was super clean and had a cozy ambiance. It was also a nice touch to have complimentary snacks and fruits in the room. The only thing that probably could’ve made it better was having the hotel restaurant offer breakfast - mostly just because the food there was outstanding!
Food and drinks: The restaurant is not to be missed. A small rotating menu with local ingredients and specially designed cocktails. Our server in addition to the chefs took wonderful care of us.

Incredible experience! The staff really makes this place even more enjoyable! Susan and Kelly you two have such a comfortable presence, the hard work you put into your guests satisfaction as well as your hotel is truly uncommon these days and definitely noticed. Your willingness to help make our stay as relaxing as possible is something we won’t forget, and is just one of many reasons we will be back! Clean rooms and complimentary snacks and water for you to enjoy! Spa located just blow is tranquil, peaceful and meditative, thank you for that experience. Original saloon is like stepping into the past, Derick and Eric behind the bar make delicious drinks and have fantastic service, providing a great atmosphere that caters to exactly what you need to unwind, relax, and have lots of fun! The Western is charming, peaceful, great location, historic, rustic yet modern. Highly recommend The Western Hotel!
Rooms: Clean, comfortable, felt like home, seems like the rooms are prepared just for you! Complimentary snacks and drinks is such a thoughtful extra. Nice to be able to use the kitchenette to make something if you like. So refreshing not having a $20+ room charge because you touched something in the fridge or on the counter. Thank you!
Nearby activities: If you enjoy beautiful views and the outdoors you can do almost anything from here. Walk, shop, bike, hike, atv, sight seeing, all from a great central hub. Karaoke in town at the local watering hole is a riot.
Walkability: Close to everything, outdoor recreation, grocery, food, and shopping. We really enjoy the walking aspect that Ouray offers but the Western location is idea for anything.
Food and drinks: The Western Grill, I can’t remember the last time we went on a trip and talked about the food non stop! Amazing, inspired and delicious, big portions, fresh ingredients, no matter what you choose on the menu you will be blown away! We seriously could go there just to eat and drink all day long! Cody and Jacob many compliments, you guys are impressive, it’s entertaining to see your food prepared right in front of you. Then you can appreciate even more how hard those guys work and the effort they put into your meal! Wow!

My husband and I had a fabulous few days at The Western in Ouray. The hotel has undergone a beautiful renovation. The rooms are beautifully appointed with small kitchenettes for those wanting to make their own meals. A Nespresso coffee maker would be the cherry on top, that is one recommendation I have for them because their coffee station doesn't open until 8:30. I also saw someone mentioned a noise machine - you can hear absolutely everything in the rooms next to you, so I second that suggestion, too.
The restaurant is incredible, we ate there two nights and had different delicious meals each night. We also made good use of the Grotto Spa - it is incredible!! We used the hot tub and cold plunge each day much to the relief of our tired legs after great hiking in town.
My only other recommendation, would be new bedding. The sheets are great, but the blanket on top was very heavy and stiff, not comfortable at all. I never write reviews but am hoping management sees this request because I want to go back!

Our stay at The Western Hotel and Spa in Ouray was simply unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the historic charm of the hotel drew us in, but what truly made the experience exceptional was the personal touch from Susanne Wood, the general manager. She went above and beyond to make my wife, our two daughters, and I feel genuinely special, greeting us with warmth and making sure every detail was perfect.
The restaurant was just as incredible—locally sourced ingredients cooked to perfection over a wood-fired hearth, creating some of the best meals we’ve ever had. It was a unique blend of history, comfort, and hospitality, all wrapped up in one amazing experience. We can’t wait to come back!

The Western is an INCREDIBLE hotel in the heart of Ouray with an incredibly professional team to match. As a wedding photographer, I so enjoyed spending some time at this venue! Their thoughtful attention to detail - from food, to decorations, to hospitality - goes a long way to make their guests feel home. Food and cocktails were to die for. Their team of staff was so welcoming and responsive to needs - a HUGE benefit if you are hosting your wedding on site. In addition, the property is absolutely stunning and gives off a true western/rustic/mountain feel. Honestly, one of the best locations for a wedding venue (and general place to stay/vacation) in SW Colorado!

Incredible is an understatement. The rooms are so thoughtfully appointed and the atmosphere and hospitality take it all to another level. The food and crafty cocktails in the Saloon / Jezebel were top notch too. Folks like Kelly and Derrick made this place incredibly memorable … wonderful hospitality. Thank you for the good times!

My husband and I celebrated our Anniversary at The Western. It exceeded all my expectations! The room was beautifully appointed and every little detail thought through. The staff went above and beyond to make it special for us; from the personalized notes in the room, to the champagne toast (thanks Kelly)! The Grotto Spa was a sweet escape and visual detox after experiencing the stunning surroundings of Ouray. Our weekend was perfect in every way!

I had the pleasure of staying at The Western in Ouray over the weekend in the charming Painted Lady Quarters, and it was truly an unforgettable mountain getaway! From the moment I stepped through the historic doorway, the staff's genuine warmth and hospitality made me feel like a cherished guest rather than just another visitor. Their attention to detail and personalized service went above and beyond my expectations.
What sets The Western apart is their staff's encyclopedic knowledge of the area. They enthusiastically shared hidden gems for self-guided scenic tours, complete with detailed directions and insider tips that you won't find in any guidebook. Their passionate storytelling about Ouray's rich history and local lore transformed my stay from a simple hotel experience into a journey through time in this captivating mountain town.
The crown jewel of my visit was undoubtedly my Swedish massage with Doreen at the Grotto Spa. In this tranquil sanctuary, Doreen's expert touch melted away every ounce of tension. Her intuitive understanding of pressure points and therapeutic techniques, combined with the spa's serene atmosphere, created an absolutely blissful experience that left me floating on cloud nine.
The Painted Lady Quarters exceeded all expectations with its perfect blend of historic charm and modern comfort. Every detail, from the period-appropriate decor to the thoughtful amenities, contributed to an atmosphere that was both luxurious and authentically Western.
I cannot recommend The Western enough for anyone seeking a genuine Colorado mountain experience. Whether you're a history buff, outdoor enthusiast, or simply in need of a peaceful retreat, this gem in Ouray delivers on all fronts. The combination of exceptional service, knowledgeable staff, world-class spa treatments, and historic ambiance makes this hotel truly special. I'm already planning my return visit!
