The whole staff were exceptionally knowledgeable and very helpful. I received a great AT boot fitting and bindings adjustment. I was very impressed with their patience and understanding to solve my particular needs. There is no other shop I would prefer to go to now! Well done Rich, Oscar, & Nate!

I’ve been here a couple times, once while thru hiking the CT in 2021, once about an hour ago after I finished hiking the collegiate loop (showered and in clean clothes, if it matters). I wonder if I don’t perform outdoorsiness correctly because the staff were rude on both visits. The blonde woman working there today was snarky and condescending. This will be my last visit. Leadville is a superior trail town (kinder people, better food, great accommodations), especially if you don’t look like the stereotypical outdoor bro. When I hike the CDT, I’ll resupply in Twin Lakes or Leadville, ship a box to Butterfly House, and skip Salida. (I wouldn’t have left a bad review if it were only one bad experience, but twice three years apart feels like more than a coincidence.)

The service here is awesome. Called to inquiry about renting a touring setup for my partner. Oscar made sure to save us a setup, and called me the day of to make sure I was coming and to get the bindings set. Once there he took the time to walk her through using the bindings and transitioning from touring to ski mode. Definitely will return if I have to rent any other gear.

I've been a Salida area local for a few years and have been shopping at this store on a regular basis. The staff and owners are very knowledgeable and helpful and the store is stocked with high quality brands and products. They have decades and decades of outdoor adventure experience! Getting that extra attention to detail and high quality service makes it another great reason to support local.

An excellent mountain shop that has a solid base of knowledge. I brought in some AT boots from a few years back that needed to some work to help eliminate pain from a bone spur on my ankle. Their approach was measured and effective in taking the extra time to look at my feet and stance. We also discussed re-heating the liners but Nate shared the downsides and we decided to hold off (even though that would’ve made them more $). Their professional approach is indicative of many, many years of experience and the price was more than fair given the time and additional services (fixing a broken hinge). I’ve been fit/molded/foamed in ski boots many times over the past 30 years and my experience here was up there with the best. Highly recommended.

I really try to support local small businesses. And i am a small business owner as well. But when staff at a business totally ignore you when you are in the store. I guess I will have to shop at REI instead! ?

What a great crew and such a solid retail store. I went in to get my ski boots worked. I had 100% of their staffs time and attention and my boots feel so much better now. Staff there are super knowledgeable and incredibly nice. Thank you. They also have a great selection of gear and and soft goods in stock. Thank you Salida Mountain Sports for making my experience such a positive one. I appreciate it.
