Check your receipt! Wife charged $18.80 for $7.90 pork chops and $3.50 for $1.49 fly swatter. Took 3 employees & mgr & 20 min to straighten out w/ mgrs attitude that we ‘had choices’ & they were trying. Not saying don’t shop there just watch what is charged & you may have to be patient w/ folks who don’t know their jobs. Update 10/15 - it is a credit to the store to address our July issue. Still at the time of incident instead of being pleasant and apologizing, the staff working, we 'were the problem'. The store is nice and has a lot of stock so don't not try them. Best in the coming winter season.

Employee in the store called the police because I was in the store with my service dog. She threatened me and told me I needed to leave. After I explained to her that she is my service dog because I have a disability and the ADA provides her every right to be in the establishment with me, she told me to "prove it". I told her she isn't allowed to ask me that and asked if she knew the only two questions they're allowed to ask me under the ADA protected rights. She huffed and said "I'm calling the police." Absolutely rude and disappointing an establishment would treat someone with a disability in this manner.
UPDATE - Since the owner has responded, I wanted to point out a few things wrong here. I'm not sure what Colorado law the owner is referring to, but an establishment is required to provide reasonable accommodations to a disabled individual utilizing a service animal. These rights are protected by a federal law under Americans with Disabilities Act Titles II & III.
Silverton Grocery is not allowed to ask for documentation or demonstration. Not all service animals are bought from a training organization, they're also protected under the ADA rights to be personally trained by the owner for specific tasks. The ADA rights also only permit an establishment to ask two questions: 1) is it a service animal, and 2) what task does the service animal provide.
Service animal documentation by federal law is not required. Unfortunately, this is marred by certain individuals that may or may not have paid a small fee for a piece of paper stating their animal is a "service animal" to bypass actual qualifications for having the right to utilize a service animal. Any request for documentation can only be asked for an employment opportunity, and even then, under ADA Title I, this documentation has nothing to do with the actual service animal itself.
I thought, at the time, it was moot when the employee also stated "I can't tell it is a service dog" and I didn't mention it in the original review as I got my actual point across anyway, but the ADA rights also do not require a service animal to be badged, vested, labeled, or identified with any kind of label. It is a COURTESY to people and establishments everywhere that they're badged/labeled as such. My dog was wearing a two-inch-wide black collar with bright red letters that said, "SERVICE DOG".
Even if there is a Colorado state law requiring documentation, I didn't go to law school but I'm pretty sure a federal law trumps a state law in this regard.

Much more impressive than it appears from the outside. You could easily get by in this quaint grocery. Has everything that a larger store would have, just in smaller quantity and less variety. As far as pricing goes, it’s understandable for things to cost more in the middle of the mountains at 9,000ft. We purchased some snack items for our day trip drive. There’s also ice, firewood, and some basic house goods.
We did not run into any problems with employees. Just interacted with the younger guy at the counter who was cordial and efficient enough.

Rang up my item at a price different from the displayed price. When I questioned it they insinuated I must be incorrect. I walked them back to the item and showed them. They told me they're often "slow to update their tags" and when I told them they should honor the displayed price they said "we're not responsible for pricing". Whoever IS responsible needs to do their job. I won't shop here again if I can help it.

Store manager threatened and called the police on a customer in the store with a well behaved badged working service dog for a visible ADA disability. Completely unacceptable and unprofessional behavior. Her justification was that the dog "didn't look like a service dog". Employees obviously need ADA training, and civil manners.

This store takes advantage of being the only place in town to buy groceries, and it is about an hour to Albertsons or Walmart. I understand there is not going to be the same deals that you can find at a chain, but this store price gouges and calls it "import pricing". To me, it sounds more like he bought the groceries full price in the neighboring town and is reselling them at astronomical prices. At Kroger, you can buy 10 patties for $10 of fresh hamburger meat. This store just sold me four packages of four patties at almost 14 bucks a package and the meat was so freezer burned that it was almost inedible. Each patty was around $3.50 as opposed to the $1 they should retail for. Again, I expect things to cost a little bit more here, and I wouldn't mind paying $2.50 a patty if the meat was at least in good shape. The frozen Stouffers enchiladas were about $27 in this store. It's incredible. Don't waste your money on this place. It's worth the 2 hour drive round trip to get quality food at good prices.

The only grocery store in town. It's fine, has the essentials. I wouldn't expect that this grocery store compares to what you might have at home; I would equate this to a convenience store, rather than a grocery store. There is a $5 minimum for credit card usage.

Some of the worst price gouging I've ever seen. Things are easily 300% markup on the prices labeled on the shelf. What actually gets charged at the register is more like 400% markup

Thru hikers, weekend travelers & everyone else beware. Stop in lake city and ship your groceries to Silverton post office. May as well rent a HOV vehicle to drive over cinnamon pass to lake city for your foods. Price gouging for popular items are clear as day.Mismatching labels as well as non existing ones make it difficult to know how much you’re actually spending.Same variety as everywhere else but compared to any other small town that’s even farther from civilization, it’s much more expensive! Hate to see it.

Expensive, looks like they cannot buy at reasonable prices so their mark up brings things to a high prices. Convenient Store
