I reserved the "premium" package, and when they showed up, the skis where Blizzard's most basic rental ski. I go in to swap out for something else, and the guy hems and haws about how they don't have many options for women's skis in my size. No problem, I say. I ski men's skis all the time. He then informs me that these skis are "REALLY heavy..." and refuses to give me the Volkls. He sticks me on a pair of Black Crows with edges so dull they couldn't cut room temp butter. I ski them for a day, and return the next day to swap out. When I let the shop know the skis need a tune, they got all up in arms and defensive. I ask again for a Volkl Kenja- they don't have one in my size. So I ask for a Kendo- same ski, just a different color for the boys. He tells me again "it's a lot of ski" and "it's really heavy" and even makes a point to say "this ski boot is really small for a ski this length." (It was 177cm). As I leave, he tosses a sassy, "Let us know if those need a tune too." They did, but my some miracle my tiny feel in my 130 flex MENS boot were able to handle the ski!!
At some point in all of this, I brought my cousin in for smaller boots. he said his heel was coming up, and when I shell-fit him, there was room for my entire hand. When I said that to the rental shop, they blinked as if they'd never heard of a shell fit before. They then proceeded to spew out, "your feet swell when to travel to altitude, so it makes sense that you need smaller boots now that you're acclimated."
As someone who grew up in a ski shop, raced in college, taught skiing for 15 years and has been around the industry longer than these guys have known the sport existed, I did not appreciate the mansplaining, especially when half the time it was total BS, like your feet being so swollen you need a ski boot four sizes too big. If you're going to make up excuses as to why your equipment sucks, at least make sure it's not entirely made up first.
Sincerely,
Never Skied a Women's Ski In My Life

Best place to get premium skis, whether you're sending cliffs or just enjoying the views.

I ski with a large club and have rented from Black Tie several times in the past. This time at Telluride was quite a disappointment. The equipment for everyone in our group arrived on time but the equipment offered to me (I was paying for Premium Ski package) looked like trash skis from a few years ago. Thankfully the on-site technician went to their van of found more acceptable equipment. I was very impressed with the young woman who was the on-site technician.
The return process was excellent - left the skis on a rack at our condo and they were picked up that night.
Black Tie has billed me about $80 more than was agreed upon and should they make this correct, I will update this posting.

What a great experience for both dropoff and pickup of skis. Couldn't have been any easier and more convenient. Staff was very professional and punctual. Will definitely look for these guys wherever we ski in the future!

We were blown away by how easy Black Tie made renting skis. They arrived at our hotel with all the right equipment and even helped us navigate the mountain/village. Mid-week we swapped our skis for some snowy conditions at the main shop and they had us back on the mountain in 15 minutes. I would highly recommend black tie and avoid the unnecessary crowds of a traditional rental place. We will definitely be repeat customers!
