Add us to the list of breakdowns coming into Trinidad. Stranded in our Class B far from home isn't a good place to be, found A-1 on Maps and called, hoping high reviews were accurate. They were.
Darin and George got us in the next morning and worked extra hours to get our transmission rebuilt, including working around terrible rv outfitter tank installation underneath. We're back on the road heading home thanks to their help.
Consider this a 10 star review - I hope you never break down with such a major problem, but if you do, this is a great shop.

Just over a week ago on a late Friday afternoon we were cruising along to our vacation spot in Red River to spend the next week when we heard bad mechanical noises coming from below. We barely got pulled off to the side of the road (no shoulder) while pulling our camper and side x sides.
I called a couple places and no one nearby could help, called a tow company and they appeared helpful however after an hour we still did not know if or when they would come. One of the places I called advised us to call A 1 Automatics, who was both a tow company and a transmission shop. They were an hour and a half away in Trinidad, Co. By this time we knew it was our torque converter, fly wheel, and hopefully little else.
I'm bad with names however I called and believe I spoke with the owner who asked a few questions and was on his way. Friends who had arrived before us came out and got our camper and toys for us, moving them to our campground. A 1 Automatics took the truck to Trinidad , he understood we needed the truck to get us home the following Friday. I canceled the other tow company who said they had someone on the way, however failed to let us know, and interestingly no one saw another tow truck. Transmission work is never cheap however they let us know what needed to be done and what didn't, as well as the cost. They used better quality parts and had us up and running for less money than we thought and by the following Thursday morning. We had absolutely no issues during the 10 hour trip back home. My husband and I truly appreciate these folks getting us in, taking care of us in a timely manner, and at a fair price. If your in the Trinidad Co., area and have trouble these are the guys to call.

The transmission in our truck died as we were driving through Trinidad. We found A-1 Automatics. Darren did a terrific job. A few days later, our transmission had been rebuilt completely. I told Darin I would write a good review if we made it over at the Berthold Pass. We did make it just fine. Almost like having a new truck!

I recently broke down in Raton, NM while driving to Denver to visit my daughter and son in law and attend the Blink-182 concert.
I called a couple of places in Raton, but no one had availability, but one of them recommended A1 Automatics.
I gave them a call and within an hour Darren showed up with the tow truck and took me to his shop in Trinidad, CO.
Darren needed to take another car into Boulder to have it's AC system recharged and offered to give me a ride to Boulder so my daughter wouldn't need to make a 6 hour round trip to come get me in Trinidad.
Darren is one of the nicest people I have had the privilege of meeting in my 59 years. He was very helpful and extremely considerate, and very fair in his pricing. I highly recommend him, and A1 Automatics. Thank you Darren, you're the best!

We broke down on a road trip in a 1968 Cadillac and had to be towed. Luckily we chose A-1. They had us up and running with a new transmission in 1.5 days. The cost was way less than we anticipated. Thanks so much, guys!

My husband and I were just blown away with how amazing the service is here. A-1 Auto helped us when we were in a pickle. We broke down on the side of the highway with our camper and he came to our rescue. We were on our way to our new PCS station so we had a time crunch and weren’t expecting this setback, but A-1 was kind enough to expedite our service and helped us tremendously. It’s hard to find service like this nowadays so we were extremely thankful for him and his business.

Blew my radiator hose about 20 miles from this shop. AAA wanted to wait 8 hours to send a tow truck my way when I was on the side of the highway. I called the shop and Darin answered promptly and was able to get to my location with minimal details since there were no mile markers. He came in a tow truck within an hour and for the distance the pricing was more than fair. He even called into his part distributors on the trip to the shop for the parts I needed for the repair and performed it same day within an hour and a half of picking me up in the tow truck. Fantastic service, fair pricing, and knowledgeable staff. Definitely recommend

We broke down on the side of I-25 south of Trinidad on a Saturday. We were able to get off the interstate on an exit. We called AAA roadside service and asked for a tow back to Trinidad. After 2 hours we still hadn't been towed or been told we were in line so we started looking for a tow service ourselves. I left a message on the voice-mail and didn't expect a call back. Only one other company answered their phone and would be 4-5 hours out. After about 45 min to an hour A1 called us back and was able to be to us in 20 min. He was nice and asked where we would like to go. We asked for a sit down restaurant where we could wait for our ride back to Colorado Springs. The driver dropped us at a nice establishment and promised to have our vehicle looked at 1st thing Monday morning. I love the kindness of small town people!

Best transmission service! They rebuild the transmission in my 2003 Cadillac escalade ext 5 years ago and I have had no problems with it!My son had the transmission in his Toyota Highlux rebuildLast month and they also did a great job! Today I took myCadillac ext back to have them change the filter and fluid! Again great ? job!Highly recommend A 1 transmission.
