There's really no going wrong if you're looking to get a solid selection of cheap books. It's an experience and you could spend hours there. There are plenty of little sections of book categories-- mystery, new arrivals, young adult, children's books. So many options! The staff are efficient and help you get around if you need it. There are little random pockets of things for kids-- a small playground with a playhouse, little cars, etc. A super cute spot for a date day, family outing, or solo relaxation. Worth the visit for sure!

A wonderful place to get lost. If you’re a reader you will love this place. Several out buildings with books. Cats and goats are a bonus. Great selection of books, I highly recommend.

Really amazing place. I was able to find books that are very hard to find. They have every genre to suit anyone's needs. There is the main house then their shipping containers, sheds, club house, ECT. Books are very well priced and fair. You may also drop books off if you want. My two favorite subjects to look for are WW2. The last time I was there the books were located in basement of main house. Next subject is extraterrestrial and hauntings which was in the back clubhouse second floor if I'm correct. It's a great experience and can get lost in time looking through all the areas.

This place is pretty amazing...a book lover's paradise. Pretty sure it's all used books. Most are $4 or $5, although you can find some paperbacks and CDs for $1. We left with a tall stack of books for only $35. The books are "organized" (they are, actually) into lots of small buildings you can roam through and explore. Almost an overwhelming amount, in the best way possible. If you love books and reading, you can easily spend at least 2-3 hours here.

Really dope used media spot. I just prefer the book barn next to that restaurant for having way more stuff, that's all. One more thing, somebody should clean up that cd rack. There's a ton of bugs in the bottom half.

Very cool bookstore! I don’t live near here, but I plan to come back. It has different sections which are clearly organized. The store even has brochures to help you get around each section and find what you’re looking for. You don’t need to like books to come here! They also have a small play area, many flowers, art pieces, cats, goats & more! I ended up with 5 books my first time here. I will be back soon! I believe you can also trade books in here as well. Staff was very friendly and helpful. If I could rate it a 6/5 I would!!

This is a wonderful used bookstore, and an unmissable landmark if you are visiting Connecticut. Pick up a book and relax, it is a little paradise.

What a wonderful experience at the book barn in Niantic. Unbelievable selection and all in fun whimsical buildings and gardens! Friendly helpful staff, bargains on books. Then when finished my friends and I went to the Black sheep Restaurant for a delicious lunch, shopped on the street, enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere and ocean scenery and then indulged in homemade ice-cream. Beautiful day, easy ride right off 95!

I love books and I love the Book Barn and all it's locations. It is a destination for us. Recent rainy day had us visiting the downtown location and buying a bunch of books, then a quick mile walk between raindrops on the Niantic boardwalk, then a short mile drive to the other locations to buy a bunch more books. Great ice cream and variety of restaurants are all right there.

If you're ever in the small town of Niantic Connecticut, you must check out The Book Barn. This is a dreamland for anyone who appreciates books or literature. There are so, so many books, thousands of books for anyone, of any interest. They are categorized by generic genre, kids, new arrivals, dollar books, mystery, fiction, etc... walking through these books is a lot of fun, it's like a maze. Whoever I have arrived with is now lost somewhere in the books, and now I'm talking to my self. Every book I have picked up, is in pristine condition. This is a great place to pick up books for your classroom library, to replace the classics that have seen better days or to add something new and exciting to the collection. Each kid's book is $1.00. The adult paperbacks are $4.00 each. The only minor complaint I have is, it's been difficult for me to find a specific book any time I've gone looking for one. Even where they're categorized by author. It's best to go without expectations, and see what you can find. If you have an unlimited amount of time to sort through books, there are two more stores of The Book Barn, all on the same street. This is a must stop for me every time I'm in Niantic. In the words of Dr Seuss .. "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go."

Ok, you're bored on a Saturday. What to do? There are no bookstores in the N.L. County area... but wait! There's the book barn! And nothing can beat that! In the Main St. Store, quite near the cinema, they have a "second location" where the (not too old, no Burnett books here) are all stored, and you can find treasure you want to share with your kids or your friend's kids, whatever age. I was happily grabbing a few books from my childhood the last time I was there! They also have sci-fi, every stripe and fantasy. I'm good with the little store, but the main store is my first love! All the old books, a few very very old ones. From the early 1700's and once one from much earlier- but those were (I think) taken to New York, or put online. Anyway the kids will love running around the place, there are lovely little stores all over in 'outbuildings' fiction, biographies, and cookbooks (of course) as well as sets of Shakespeare, Kipling, and even bibles. I once bought a copy of the book those Scientologists in lower management use.. I was interested in comparative Religion, and it seemed to give away quite a few secrets!! Spend a hot afternoon strolling around and who knows, you may find a book that will keep you occupied for the next few days! Oh, there are a number of working cats in the main store. They are adorable but remember they also perform the removal of pests old books can bring, so ask before you let one out!

This is one of the most fun and unique book stores I have ever been to in my life! It's the epitome of a recycling dream - the furniture and decorations are all pre-loved. They have created a beautiful, homey location for books. They have all types of books - you will find what you need here! They also buy books from patrons if they are in good condition! I always come to this bookstore if I'm close to the area. It is a can't miss spot!!!

We absolutely LOVED this charming find!! We agreed that you could spend the whole day here and still not see it all. I highly recommend this outdoor establishment. Plenty of seats randomly placed and even a huge chess board set up! Did I remember to say that we LOVED it here?!Oh, and I did find a book to purchase (yes, only 1 because I was from out of town and didn't want to carry too much in my luggage) and my daughter found easy readers for the boys who are learning to read on their own.
