A few days ago, I had to go the DSW in Plainville to pick up a pair of Doc Martens that I ordered for in-store pickup. I had to exchange them for a different size, and they could not have been more pleasant. I was in the store longer than I needed to be (there was a bit of a line) but again, all the cashiers were pleasant and helpful.Yesterday, I came into the Farmington location for another in-store pickup and the attitude from the cashier (older lady with moon buns in her hair) was unreal. First, I walk in and had to wait (not an issue, I don't mind waiting) for the two cashiers to finish their conversation. I wasn't greeted or anything. That's fine. I just want to get in and out anyway. I tell her I have an in-store pickup. She looks for it, can't find it. I ask her if it might be the shoes that are on the counter (because I ordered another pair of Doc Martens and there was a Dr. Martens box in the front). She says rather nastily "Oh no, those are someone else's." She finds my shoes, gives them to me, I say "thank you" and nothing. I thought, "Okay she's probably just having a bad day." I used to work in customer service, it happens. But then, there's a father and son behind me and she goes "Hi! Are you guys here for an in-store pickup?" in the most perky tone ever...So, she either doesn't like women or has a problem with Puerto Ricans. It's giving racism and internalized misogyny.All this to say if you are a woman or a person of color, you're probably better off going to the Plainville DSW instead of the one in Farmington. Better employees, better ambience, better lighting (because why is it so dark in here?).
