I will never go back> Bare Wood did a good job on what I ordered, but he put everyone else down. Sorry, that's not how you run a business.

I would prefer to give 0 stars, but it is not an option. June of 2020 my parents ordered a custom built in wall unit for the main wall in the living room of their new retirement home. Fast forward 3 years later and NO wall unit! My parents are too kind to create waves despite having deposited thousands of dollars and still staring at unpacked boxes in their living room in the hopes of finally receiving their unit. This will be the 4th Christmas without a tree due to the boxes being in the way. The owner has had every excuse imaginable, but the bottom line is he is taking advantage of 2 kind people. Every thing about this business is UNFINISHED! BUYER BEWARE!

After waiting two and a half years, I still have not received the furniture I ordered. What I have received are excuses, often the same ones.

AVOID AT ALL COST! I have never left a negative review for anything, ever. This experience has been that bad I felt it was only fair to prospective buyers to do so. My husband and I placed an order for a bureau and matching mirror with Kevin at Bare Wood Fine Furniture in February 2022. We are STILL waiting for that furniture. We paid for the furniture in full very quickly, and Kevin cashed that check in a VERY timely fashion. He originally estimated up to 20 weeks (July 2022). In September 2022 he told us our order was in "Under Production". In February 2023 it was in "Pre-ship Status". In March 2023 it was "on the truck" and set to arrive just a few days later. Here we are in July 2023 and still no furniture. Furthermore, at this point, Kevin has stop calling with updates, he doesn't answer the phone and his memory is full. If I could give ZERO STARS, I would.

Amendment 4/15/23: We received 3 out of 4 of our stools, and as I assumed in the original review, they are lovely. They are the perfect height and match our kitchen island perfectly! We picked them up when our family came to town, and they are everything we had been missing with other visits. I truly wish our experience up to this point wasn't as unfavorable as it was, but the owner, Kevin, was very apologetic and seemed truly concerned with trying to make us (his customers) happy. We are still waiting for the 4th stool due to a manufacturing oversight, but I am hopeful that any further delays will be professionally communicated in a timely manner.I will also add that these stools are clearly high quality and very comfortable! We are very happy to have them. I would just advise future customers to ask clearly for accurate timelines and not assumptions. The furniture is worth the wait if there are reasonable delays, but being proactive will probably help with any communication issues. Kevin thoughtfully gave us a discount for future purchases because of our troubles with this order and only requested half of our remaining balance until the last stool is finished. I would love to give this business more stars, but I feel my review is an accurate and honest review of my personal experience up to this point. I hope this review helps future customers understand that there might be unexpected extra delays for custom furniture, but the product is wonderful, just be proactive!Original review: I can not write a product review because I still have not received my order as of this post dated 4/7/23, 10 months after the date of purchase. This is a review of customer service and business integrity. It will be long, but it is important to get all the details to write a proper review. Here are the facts: My husband and I purchased four unstained scoop seat stools from this business on 6/3/22. We were told they were in stock and that we could bring them home that day. After a long discussion with Kevin about the stain products they offered so we could stain them ourselves. We ultimately decided to get them professionally stained because we saw them as an investment of furniture that would last. His timeline for staining was roughly 2-3 months. We agreed.Several months later, near the 3 month mark, I called to check on the status. I was told the stools I ordered were still being manufactured. I called Kevin back to remind him that our stools were in stock when we ordered them. He said he would check on that and call me back, which he never did. Fast forward a handful of more calls and many months. On 2/16/23, Kevin was happy to report that they would be finished in 2 weeks as they were already being worked on. Here it is 4/7/23 and we still do not have our furniture.I am sure the product will be lovely, but I feel purposely misled, tricked, and ill-informed on accurate timelines based on current production. I wish our deposit was refundable. I am incredibly disappointed in the business integrity and poor customer service that I have received. I would only recommend this business if you plan on buying a product off the floor and bringing it home that day.

On March 3 2022 my husband and I purchased 4 bookcases to arrive in 10 to 12 weeks. Cost a little over $2100.00. Ws gave a $1000.00 deposit. In June 12 weeks had past I was told they were in production. In July no ETA. In August no ETA. Promises Promises. In Sseptember no ETA. Finally on September 10 we negotiated a refund. When my husband went to the store for the refund the store owner KEPT $125.48 in sales tax. For something we did not have. He would not give us our sales tax back! We had no merchandise. He also kept $30.00 in credit card fees. Finally after contacting the State of Connecticut consumer protection we got our sales tax back February 9 2023. BUYER BEWARE.

We ordered 4 pcs of furniture. The wood choices were a nice option, the many options for stain or a milky white paint giving a nice cottage furniture look were great. Many of the pcs were made by the Amish and the owner contracts with pro staff as an option to stain to expedite delivery as opposed to waiting on the furniture supplier. We definitely felt the owner, Kevin, did his best to ensure our happiness with all our pieces. We ordered a Cherry indoor bench, an Alder bookcase stained in Cherry, an island hard wood shelved cabinet in Natural stain & finally, a bathroom Mission-styled sm footprint pc coated in a nice milky white stain that looked just perfect by our Roman tub in our master bathroom. Weve always shopped Raymour & Flanagan previously, i can tell you that Bare Wood's quality surpassed the big furniture franchise by leaps & bounds! It honestly wasnt too much more $ but i'll support "made in the USA" and Amish made any day for a bit more cost. The quality was visible..this was not the cheaper unfinished wood quality of the past 30 yrs we had known made mostly of Pine or an Island hard wood on the cheap. I think too, the majority of those stores disappeared a decade ago around CT. Bare Wood is a cut above and the last of the Mohicans for these independent custom furniture stores. There was a 3 month wait because of delays for timber, woodworkers completed mfg & store delivery and finally, a wait on 3rd party staining contractor we opted for but honestly, the end product was totally worth it! I would enthusiastically urge folks to get to Groton and check out Kevins furniture samples in store. When he closes shop one day, you wont have another opportunity to locate well made furniture thats pro custom finished & made like this and if you do, youll pay 2x as much from a passionate wood worker...which is rare to find. Bare Wood is in sm plaza across from Big Y and next door to Pizza Palace.

Great experience buying from Bare Wood Furniture. Quality customer service. We were told right from the beginning it would take longer for our furniture to arrive due to supply chain issues, but it was worth the wait. Well built solid wood furniture made in America. One piece did arrive damaged, but Kevin got back to us almost immediately with resolution for a replacement.

I ordered a custom bookcase for my son's birthday. I wanted something special for him because it would be the first anniversary of my mother's passing last year on October 16th, my son's birthday. So I needed something extra special. His main gift was a PS5 which he finally received last week, and this bookcase to set it up on with his 43'" tv to sit on the top shelf. With this bookcase, he could play his Playstation AND watch tv from his bed. This may sound trite to most people but my son is Autistic, specifically with Asperger's so he has no contact with the outside World other than through his Playstation. So we needed a stand that was 48" wide (the width of his bed) and 36" high (because his bed is almost that height). We went to Bare Wood after we were sent there (with highest accolades) by the owner of Dekes unfinished furniture because he was going out of business. We met Kevin, who addressed us as soon as we walked in and seemed happy to be there and not grumbling all over and ignoring us. He was very knowledgeable about his product and VERY honest about the waiting time, which was 12 weeks. When it was delivered to our house, the measurements were reversed so it was 36 in wide (needed 48) and was 48 in high (needed 36). I thought for sure were SOL! It was a custom made piece just for us, but the wrong size. When I spoke to Kevin, I actually felt sick to my stomach that we just lost almost 1,000.00 for a bookcase. However, Kevin's words were "Oh no problem, we'll just do an exchange, so you get the right one and we'll take the wrong one back". I couldn't believe it! He did also explain that there will again be a waiting period - and I really don't care. The fact that he was fixing this problem and without any attitude, was in my opinion above and beyond. He knew what we wanted and immediately acknowledged that a mistake had been made, but not by us. I think that demonstrates amazing moral, ethical, and professional behavior. I'd give Kevin 10 stars!!!

I realize I signed off on the project, and I new there was an issue with the height between the bottom shelf and the next shelf up. 1. As stated in the previous email, "The distance between the bottom shelf and the next shelf up should measure 13.5 inches from the top of the bottom shelf to the bottom of the upper shelf". When I got it home and measured the distance between the two shelves, I got a measurement of 14.75 inches. This means I lost an inch and a quarter because someone's original measurement was off by a quarter of an inch and they/you did not account for the additional 3/4 inch filler strip. 2. Did anyone try to clean all the glue. (See photos) 3. The stability of the bottom shelf is questionable. When I went to remove the desk from my SUV, I noticed a cut line vertically down the middle of the board. This I did not see upon original inspection because it is on the underside of the desk. It is impossible for me to wrap my head around it taking you 5 WEEKS to add 2 shelves to a desk that was already completely made AND still make so many mistakes. ***** ** ** ****
