We always have some luck when stopping in here. Shorts, hats, shirts, sweatshirts, etc. Clothing is high quality. Kids sizes too which is always a bonus when shopping with our sons. We'll be back

If you are looking for the authentic Martha's Vineyard style fashion (I'd like to call it "Nautical Casual") then you should definitely head down to Mystic and visit The Black Dog General Store. They are very pet friendly as the founder of the store , Captain Robert Douglas, would have as his sailing companion his beloved black dog (hence the store's name). The store's inventory changes frequently and the staff is very helpful and friendly (especially Donald and Olivia). Yes, the price point is higher than a regular department store, but the quality is top notch and the styles and fabrics are on point. The color palette of their pieces are also varied (not just blue). I have several pieces in my wardrobe and the other nice thing is that they can be easily mixed and matched with each other and other items in my wardrobe. As befits their name, they also have some dog accessories which is another reason to bring Fido. Parking is bad but its downtown Mystic so what do you expect. Personally I like parking on Gravel street and walk along the Mystic River towards the store. It's very photogenic and puts you in the mood to shop at the store. Can't recommend this place enough. In downtown Mystic its a fashion store that sells high quality clothing but is not pretentious in any way.

The black dog is a well known shop; in most New England coastal "vacation-resort" towns. Each and every location I've walked into, Including downtown Mystic, Ct you can tell they spend time on window and entry way/side walk displays. There is always some kind of advertising that draws tourists as well as the locals just out for a Saturday stroll. I'm guilty of it myself!! I stopped in just this weekend as the holiday display drew us in looking for holiday pajamas. Unfortunately the sizing has been difficult lately and I haven't been able to make any recent purchases, wish is my only reasoning for 4 star review. The staff is always super friendly and willing to help try and locate sizing and even willing to ship from other locations as well as warehouse. I'm not sure if there is a procurement/overhead/stocking issue with covid changing the small retail industry!? Maybe. possibly. So I will continue to patronize in hopes to find some additional black dog gear for our family, and will make sure to update my review in the future Cheers Folks

If I could give zero I would. Waited patiently for 20 minutes. I was allowed in while my husband and children waited outside. People are just roaming around to just browse. I have 2 shirts in my hand and was about to pick up other items to purchase. When the girl goes to my husband only two more can come in. So he can send the kids in by themselves to look for their mom or one child stays out. Btw my kids are 8 and 5. What made it worse was she had an attitude. When I said fine we will leave she said that's fine you can go.

I love this store! My family and I shop here regularly and the store is always tidy and clean. All of the employees are friendly and helpful and will even look in the back for sizes if you can't find what you're looking for. It's pricey but the quality of the clothes is excellent so you definitely get what you pay for. My husband, in particular, loves their clothes. I like that you can get the free tote with purchase. And last summer I bought two of the black dog plush toys for my niece and nephew, and was able to get cardboard dog houses for them. So cute! This is a regular stop for me when I'm in downtown mystic. They are taking the COVID safety guidelines seriously, wearing masks, and maintaining a store capacity. Don't miss this store if you're visiting Mystic!

Terrible customer service. "Due to COVID, there's no try ons" the N*** of a manager clearly is in the wrong profession. After being in customer service myself for 18 years this guy is on a clear power trip and won't admit when he's wrong. Falsely accused us of washing a garment and ticket switching. Fitting rooms have been open at other establishments for months now. He just didn't want to be inconvenienced and has now lost two customers because of this, hopefully more! Save your money and shop somewhere else that actually cares about their customers rather then being accusatory and insulting.
