The Bushnell Park Carousel is a charming and historic attraction in Hartford, built in 1914 by Stein and Goldstein. Housed in a 24-sided pavilion, it features 48 beautifully carved wooden horses, two chariots, and a lively Wurlitzer band organ from 1921. The carousel was brought to Hartford by the Knox Foundation in 1974, symbolizing the city’s restoration efforts, and has been lovingly restored by the New England Carousel Museum. Visitors can enjoy the stunning design, real horse hair tails, and the fastest carousel engine in the world. The surrounding park is a picturesque setting with fountains, a playground, statues, and a stage for performances. The park offers parking and is a perfect spot for family outings, especially on a rainy day when the staff provide a friendly and fun atmosphere. The carousel costs only $2 to ride, making it an affordable and magical experience for all ages. Its rich history, beautiful craftsmanship, and the peaceful park environment make it a beloved Hartford landmark.
Took a historical tour of Carousel today with Morgan Fippenger of the Bushnell Park Conservancy… Excellent afternoon! Amazing structure and so much history.

Spinning around the Bushnell Park carousel with my oldest daughter reminded me how magical these little moments are. Can’t wait for ice skating and hot cocoa next! 🎠❄️☕💕

I did not ride the carousel , as it was not open at the time I was there, but was very impressed with its design from my view point.
