I recently visited Kent Connecticut on a whim and it was one of the better afternoons. The gallery owner was informed and well supported by his wife in their efforts to bring art to the rest of us. I wasn't able to purchase the piece that I wanted but the t-shirt that I got was creatively done and a piece of artwork itself. This gallery stood out among the many that I visited the afternoon that I was in Kent.

As the oldest art gallery in Kent Barns, Ober gallery is the mainstay of the Kent Barns community of contemporary art galleries. Rob Ober's easygoing style and genuine warmth invites unhurried looking and conversation. Rob is a wealth of knowledge of contemporary art in general and the more specific area of Russian artists. His time in Russia cultivated a deep affinity for the region and its styles making him and expert in this niche market. Shows range from Russian figurative exhibitions to abstract paintings by emerging NYC artists as well as a number of local artists. Take your time looking - there are often real gems stacked against the walls!

It is a pleasant surprise to stumble into a vast collection of Russian art in little Kent, CT, even though Kent has long know for cutting edge art galleries. Rob is very knowledgeable about the history behind these works and always has a mind-expanding exhibit of interesting 2-D and 3-D works.

A small gallery but well stocked with both traditional and contemporary art with a special interest in Russian artists. Located off the beaten path yet well worth finding!
