My husband and I have lived on the shoreline for the past eleven years. For the past few years we discovered J.Horton in Madison. This past Sunday we drove from our home in Branford to Christmas shop at J. Horton. When we entered the boutique we were told we needed to wear a mask. We have heeded all of our governments recommendations; both of us received two Covid inoculations plus the booster shots. We will not be victims of "Political Correctness" and therefore will not shop at J. Horton from here on.

The woman running the store actually let me purchase a $64.00 candle. I did not ask about the price and she offered to email or text my receipt without actually telling me the total of my purchase. Only after did I open the text message to discover what I had spent. I felt sick to my stomach. I know I should have asked about the price or returned after I realized my mistake. I’m not a rich tourist up from New York on vacation, I’ve lived in the town over for 35 years and sadly I knew better. Won’t be coming back here and probably won’t visit any other stores on the strip again.

Cute shop in downtown Madison and a variety of nice items for gifts. She really has nice stuff and I've been going for years. But I should warn you it's always a little uncomfortable because the sales person hovers closely and explains each item as you move along the store. Like receiving a sales pitch I feel like I have to constantly tell her I need to think about it or she'll start piling these item behind the counter for checkout. I usually leave feeling pressured and a little ripped off.. thinking how did I just go in there.. barely get a chance to see everything and somehow leave with a few small items spending $60-$100?

Horrible and tacky selection, rude staff. Feels like you're in an episode of hoarders with all the unorganized junk. Don't waste your time.

J. Horton, one of our favorite stops for gifts and goodies for the home, has moved to 690 Boston Post Road in Madison. Joanie's new sunny location suits her mix of happy merch: from local ceramicist Laura Zindel's quirky pottery (that cow mug!) and our favorite Montes Doggett (oven, micro, dishwasher safe) serving vessels, to Turkish towels and these wonderful oversized, but super light beach bags made of (of all things) washable paper. Baby gifts are abundant, too: adorable African fabric diaper covers and fun mermaid, swim or lagoon themed floaties for the bath. Joanie has a keen eye for the unusual, and you'll be pleased to pore over her assortment of hats, hilarious cards, and bewitching candles. DO NOT LEAVE without a bag or two of Torres Truffle Chips and a box of Prestat Matcha Chocolates. Both ridiculously addictive. And now you can find some of her selections in her online shop. So convenient! Congrats on your new digs, Joanie!

Joan Horton has done the work so all you have to do is shop. The best taste, the most fun shopping experience on the shoreline. Gifts for men, women, kids, pets and home. Fabulous finds in accessories, jewelry, tabletop, amazing pottery, perfume, yoga clothes, everything for a hostess gift, bridal registry & truffle potato chips too! Joan and her staff make you right at home, don't miss JHorton Store on Main Street in Madison.
