My mother died recently. As the administrator of her estate, I was required to file her personal income taxes. I went to the H&R Block branch in Middletown.
I worked with a lady named Linn for about an hour to complete my mother’s taxes. I paid $280. I was not told anything needed to be mailed in or that any further action was needed on my part.
A few months later, instead of getting a refund check I received a letter from the IRS saying they could not complete the taxes because they did not receive the tax documents.
I was told by an H&R Block representative that I needed to mail in the tax documents. Ok. I mailed the documents in April. Several months went by and I still did not get a refund check. I tried to contact Linn repeatedly via email but never heard back from her.
I got in touch with someone else from the office and was told that Linn retired. Another lady named Sushma said she would work with me to resolve this issue but soon thereafter was non responsive to several emails before the taxes were filed correctly.
I then called the corporate office. I was put in touch with another lady named Eleanor in a different branch, West Hartford. Eleanor said she would help but soon thereafter became non-responsive to several emails before my issue was resolved.
I also came to understand that Linn failed to include Form 1310 with the tax return. Form 1310 allows the IRS to redirect the refund of a deceased taxpayer to another person. I would think filing this form would be a no-brainer for a tax professional but it was not done in this case by Linn.
I've experienced nothing but grief, unprofessional conduct, apathy, poor quality work and dysfunction from the various morons of this company. They are supposed to stand behind their returns when there's a problem with the IRS but clearly this was not done in my case.
I don't know if these people are poor performers, DEI hires, quiet quitters or just your garden-variety low quality human beings with a poor work ethic, but here it is a year later. I still don't have the taxes finished and I’m out $280.
I don't know why I have been treated this way. Several years ago, I had another serious problem at a different branch. It's a long story but I had to threaten to take them to small claims court to get them to do what I wanted them to do. I have no problem doing this again.
I feel that I've been more than patient. Now seems like the right time to escalate this situation.

My tax advisor was thorough, informative, and extremely organized. This is the second time I have used Bob Thompson and know it will be a lasting partnership. He reviewed the entire return and analyzed/advised on the changes to consider next year. He is incredibly well informed regarding the IRS and the changes that would implemented in the coming year.
