I am a contractor and I live in the South. I did a several week's long project in New Hampshire and the general contractor I did the work for skip town after he got paid and didn't pay any of the subcontractors.I work my way as far as Middletown Connecticut with Craigslist work and then found myself stranded at a rest area for several days. The priest at my home Church down south recommended I call St Vincent de Paul. I'm not the type to ask for help and don't feel comfortable with it, but St Vincent de Paul responded to my request in less than 24 hours. Not only did they immediately help me with gas for my truck, they found a work for me to do in my trade to help me get home the rest of the way. They even let me shop and their food pantry.I can't say enough about the kindness and respect these people showed me. It's a scary feeling leaving a project you just finished without getting paid and having 1400 miles to travel with 1/4 tank of gas and $43 dollars in the bank. The quickness with which day evaluated my need and responded was amazing. The thoroughness they provided to accommodate my need was more amazing. These are real people with real hearts and minds and they put them to work to help people like me who found themselves in need.10 Stars if I could.

They aren't the same as when they first opened up, now they are a business, they don't have the community in mind and that is disappointing

What they do at this place goes beyond 5 stars, serving the homeless and those in need of a meal and looking for a safe place to be with others especially during the cooler months. Years ago I served the food and now I find myself on the other side of the line, a humbling experience to say the least. The food may not always be the best but it's healthy and fills your tummy and keeps you warm until your next meal. This place and the people who keep it going though are the best, top notch in my books!

I love the fact that of you love in Middletown it's hard to go hungry. It's because of places like the soup kitchen

Don't waste your time unless your just stoping to eat, I've been asking for assistance just to help me apply for section 8 housing and I kept getting the run-around and brushed off, thank God I was able to get help elsewhere and I am now several years later on the verge of securing my vouchers, no thanks to them.
