We saw Dr. DeForge for an emergency visit our regular veterinarian couldn’t see our dog today and we couldn’t wait. Dr. DeForge was very thorough, explained EVERYTHING to us, pre and post surgery. Everyone there was kind and thoughtful. I definitely would recommend them.

Dr DeForge and his staff have been nothing but helpful and compassionate towards my 2 kittens. I brought them to another ER vet prior to him and they were not helpful AT ALL putting my kittens lives at risk. Dr DeForge was extremely helpful/thorough and took the time after hours to call and explain all of his reasoning for his treatments and answer all of my questions. He has followed up with me to check on my babies and asked for updates. Even over a week after my visit with him he continues to answer any questions I have. So grateful I found him! I don’t understand any of these bad reviews! Wonderful people.

I was referred to Dr. Deforge by my primary vet, for my dog who was diagnosed with osteomyelitis in his jaw. At first I had very high hopes. Then, to my surprise, I had the same experience as multiple other patients of dealing with a condescending, egotistical, and rude doctor. If you do not agree with something, choose to take a different path, or simply do not want to do whatever extensive diagnostic he suggests, you will receive multiple condescending emails basically of him gloating about himself and then sending you elsewhere if you do not agree to his ridiculous demands. Yes, Dr. Deforge, I am in fact in control of MY dog and how I want to navigate treating him. I had to reread many of his emails over and over again to actually believe a professional in fact sent me this. You are not allowed inside the office, you meet one of the techs outside in the parking lot to hand off your dog. Ridiculous. Although, the techs were very nice to deal with. Dr. Deforge may be a great veterinarian to some, although I would not know, because the procedure he performed on my dog was unsuccessful and cost me close to 4k and when I did not want to do further testing on an issue totally separate from his osteomyelitis (the entire reason I began seeing him in the first place), he had his receptionist send me an email and send me on my way elsewhere. It's actually laughable.

Highly recommend this place. Just about a year ago my male cat suddenly had a blockage. I went to a different vet before silver sands and they were not helpful or accommodating at all. I called silver sands and right away they helped me. He quite literally saved my cats life. Dr was super confident and knowledgeable about what my cat was experiencing. My cat stayed overnight for two nights. He recovered perfect! I’m truly grateful for this place! I always recommend silver sands to anyone I know!Thank you thank you!!!

Only eating one star because they don’t allow you to do zero stars. Ladies answering the phone are extremely unprofessional. My wife contacted them for two months straight in regards to paperwork our pet insurance required for 50% reimbursement. We patiently waited after every call for some type of help and never received anything . Finally after two months we decided to call the office with a representative from the insurance company on the line . Asked the woman on the phone to give us a second to click over and merge calls . After agreeing to this the woman hung up on us . As you can imagine after two months of giving us the run around this was extremely frustrating. After calling back 10 times finally got through and my wife began to express her frustrations and told the woman that this was very unprofessional as we had given them so much time to help us with the letter we needed for reimbursement. The Male Vet who runs silver-sands picked up the phone and began to yell at my wife telling her how dare she say they were unprofessional when they had an emergency at the vet . He was so rude and nasty that my wife hung up and began to cry out of frustration and embarrassment. We have spent THOUSANDS of dollars at this vet and were treated this way which goes to show that they do NOT value their customers . Since then we have found an amazing vet in Fairfield where they actually value their customers and are not unprofessional and nasty like silver sands. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME HERE .

Dr DeForge has been wonderful along with all of his staff in helping Penny recover from a cruciate tear. When our vet retired right after her surgery Dr. DeForge stepped right in and helped keep her on track. Unfortunately she has now torn the cruciate on the other leg and is scheduled for surgery soon. We have every confidence that everything will go smoothly and hopefully by summer she will be back up and running.

Been going to Silver Sands for decades with many generations of beloved furry family members. Dr DeForge and staff have always provided thorough and meticulous care, managing complex medical issues, dental care and emergencies when needed. Our 3 now geriatric felines are thankful for their compassionate care.

I want to start this review by saying as an emergency hospital this practice is a really good choice. For emergencies they are able to squeeze you in and are reasonably priced compared to other emergency hospitals. However, as your general practice vet you may want to reconsider. The wait times when picking up your pet can become anywhere up to an hour. Most times when you call the practice to schedule an appointment or even talk to staff you are unable to get anyone on the phone and voicemails aren’t always returned. They do have an app and are pretty good about responding in the app. I recently needed a letter for my pet insurance. I called for 4 weeks straight for the letter and finally after 4 weeks of calling asking for a letter explaining a visit (which my insurance was requesting) I received an email of my pets entire medical record, which is not what I needed. I explained to staff what I needed in the letter. Which was a letter explaining my pets visit and his diagnosis from the visit. The vet tech sounded confused and I offered to connect her with the insurance company so they could explain it via three way. When I connected the calls the vet tech hung up the phone. I called back numerous times to no answer. When I finally got through again I expressed my concern with her hanging up and how I believed it to be unprofessional. The doctor then came on the phone yelling saying how they have emergencies and how disconnecting the call to tend to an emergency was in fact not unprofessional. He also yelled “and if you have a problem you can find a new practice”, then proceeded to disconnect the call. It was a simple letter that any general practice veterinary should be able to provide. As I stated above, they may be doing great as an emergency hospital but as a general practice I think they lack the consideration of people’s time, with the long wait times, and the way the doctor spoke to me was clear that I was correct in saying that they are unprofessional. If my review isn’t enough go through other reviews and see his responses to anyone who has anything remotely negative to say. I can only imagine how he’s going to respond to this review. But I feel like after my experience I needed to voice my concerns.*update*The response from the doctor lacks facts and content. The facts are I explicitly explained what the insurance company was asking for in a letter. I explained it multiple times over a four week course. The dispute wasn’t between the insurance company and me. It was in fact a dispute between SSV and me for a letter that could have and should have been done. Vet bills are extremely pricey and if you cared about the pets you served you would work with your paying customers to get very simple letters completed so that they can continue to be treated. I did a very thorough job selecting an insurance company. I unfortunately did not do as thorough of a job selecting a veterinarian who was compassionate and professional. I was patient and understanding. I did not make a huge fuss when a simple explanation of visit letter was put off and ignored by your company for four weeks. I pointed out how hanging up in the middle of a call was unprofessional and your response was to yell at me and tell me to take my pets somewhere else. And then you come on this review and state clear and blatant lies. For anyone reading this review if this example isn’t enough to deter you from this unprofessional practice then I don’t know what else is. His claim to “love all pets” is something I’m calling into question when he simply kicked my pets out his practice for me taking issue to being hung up on. In addition to not providing me the letter I needed for my pets insurance to continue to get the medical treatment he needs.

The doctor was very rude and impatient. Staff were unfriendly, unprofessional, and not very helpful. We weren't allowed to see the examination (unusual in our experience) and a second opinion showed that they also misdiagnosed the cats we had taken there. I do not recommend this vet.

Dr. Deforge and his staff Alicia were so accommodating to an emergency my dog Maki had especially occurring at almost closing time. I am very grateful I found this gem. They were very compassionate, professional, knowledgeable. Maki found his new vet! If I could give over 10 stars I would. Continue the great work! We will be seeing you again. ??

First shame on you!! You finely got back to me via social media, second your response to my husbands review is nothing but lies! Dr. Peters an associate of Dr Baratt called you a couple of times including myself. We needed Hollys radiographic pictures pre op and post op of the surgery you preformed. You never ever referred me to a cardiologist. We had our own cardiologist for years (Animal Hospital of Norwalk) they were monitoring Hollys heart with the right meds and she was living a great quality of life. They said Hollys heart is 100% and strong for surgery, yes Holly had SERVE periodontists disease but with the right Dr she could have been saved!.. Third you never REFERRED me to Tutt’s Cummings School Of Medicine . .So if you did return my calls you would have know my DEAR HOLLY PASSED AWAY ??It was your prior surgery that messed her mouth up and this contributed to her suffering..SO DONT TELL ME I HOPE HOLLY IS DOING WELL!!Please do not use 9/11 to your response of my husbands review to draw attention away from the terrible job you did to our baby girl??Our little girl is gone ???you can comment on this review but it will be all lies!Mr & Mrs Gambacini ??

DO NOT GO TO DR DEFORGE.. he stated he knew how to do dentistry on my dear Holly. He is not board certified to do an excellent job in helping her with her oral disease.. she was getting worse after surgery so I figured it was time she was just aging 17yrs young, called hospice nurse, hubby said please one more time… we found board certified dentist in Salem Ct.. he looked at Holly and stated he can help her… the day of surgery he called frantic and said he had to fix the damage from a prior Vet.. ((Dr DEFORGE… )) Dr Peters was shocked at what he saw from prior surgery. Till this day Dr DEFORGE refuses to call me or Dr Peters back, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!! all I want is pre op and post op of his surgery. He just refuses to return calls on my baby…??

My vet couldn't see my sick dog. I found Silver Sands on Google, called and they had me come right over! Within an hour, she was taken care of. The Dr was friendly and informative. He took care of Shelby. She looks great! Same day, and she looks and feels so much better! I think I found a new vet!
