I tried to adopt from here during their closing. I filled out the application noone ever responded. I don't know why, but I was willing to drive to pick up the cat. I can see why they went out of business.

The current owner use to work under Fred Acker. He was forced to retire for animal abuse. When I was 14 years old Susan got in my face and then proceeded to get in my father's face and threaten us. This is because we simply wanted to give her feedback on the condition and aggressive behavior of a dog we had adopted. I'm sure this happens a lot, so I don't expect her to Remember me but this place hasn't changed, she was basically running the show then(this was around 2008). Also SPCA is not the ASPCA.

I honestly would not recommend here for adopting a dog. Poorly ran and managed, the owner is very rude and not helpful at all, just take a look at the reviews and her responses to them.

I placed my application 2 weeks ago which was approved and I spoke to them twice - I made an appt, left work early and my son took the day off in addition, he picked up my granddaughter who lives 40 minutes away. Appt at 430pm, got there at 4:20pm, told her who I was and the dogs I would like to meet she angrily said only 2 dogs I’ll bring out I’m too busy, she yelled at me and was quite aggressive I said ok thinking she maybe just busy with all of the puppies. I stood there for 50 minutes and was basically ignored - she finally came out and said sorry if I was rough on you but I can’t show you dogs today, the volunteers messed it all up so it would take to long to find the puppies you want - can you come back Saturday- I was shocked - we had even considered volunteering to help out but not with that attitude, I nicely tried to talk to her and she was still not nice and told me she’s not worried, all of these puppies will get adopted! My son who remained very patient told her it was wrong and she yelled at him, she didn’t like that and told him to get off her property. She then complained how people were there 4 hrs today for one puppy. I know the job is not easy but you knew these pups were coming for quite some time, you should have been prepared and not made appts you could not handle. I pray that the puppies all get a home quickly because they deserve that, it’s very sad that things happened the way they did because 2 puppies would have had a great home! I’m sorry you are overwhelmed but you don’t treat people horribly and in front of children! Shame on you!! They say adopt from shelters - I tried!!! Horrible experience

There is a creature there who called me on my day off at 7am screaming at me for wanting to adopt a small dog. Idk what sort of people you allow to volunteer with that insane behavior. She then proceeded to blow up my email cursing at me, after I blocked her number so angry! That is a very disturbed woman. Screaming at me like I’m a child, when I called her out in it she came belligerent. I highly suggest getting rid of that nut job.

We have been looking for a specific pup for the longest time. We finally found her through SPCA in Monroe. Unfortunately, we had to back out the first time as we had something come up unexpectedly. We were beyond heart broken we couldn't adopt our girl then. We originally asked if they do Foster-to-Adopt as we weren't 100% set on adopting after we heard our girl was taken. Fast forward a couple days (more like a week), I get a call from Sue and she said that our girl was coming back and she wanted to have us take her! We were beyond happy to hear and jumped at the chance to get our girl. We took her home that day, introduced her to our pack (3 other pups) and we fell in love. We drove back down to Monroe about a week later and made the decision to adopt Suki. We are beyond happy with how everything went and will 100% go see Sue of the Monroe SPCA if we ever get another pup. Thank you so much, Sue!!

This animal shelter is amazing! They target saving feral cats. They don't kill trees with begging for funding through spam. They employ tons of local teenagers to give them experience. I will be getting my next emotional support animal trainee from them when a cat right for it comes up. Please donate!

Sue and the volunteers are doing amazing work saving these animals! We’ve had our dog Ray for 18 months and he has been such a joy in our lives! Will always be grateful to the SPCA for rescuing him.

They only take checks or cash. $395 but I was told it pays for microchip, spaying, vaccinations and such. I found all this out the day of adoption. Animals shipped from Texas appeared to be healthy. I didn't adopt but I recommend it for the animals sake.

The application fee was acceptable for anyone who is seriously considering adoption. The facility is run down and in poor condition which is just heartbreaking to think of for the animals. We were set to adopt a cat but when we arrived we felt we had been misled about the history and possible health of the cat. We believed the cat to be much older and to have been feral for some time based on our interaction (hissing and posture he took for a five month old was intense). After further inspection we saw there were feces on the wall in the room the cat was in and really started to question how honest the staff was being. Feeling like an organization is pawning off cats claiming they are young or passing off feral cats for a fee goes against everything they are supposed to leave the impression of. When I expressed my concern I got a response of “OK” so there goes that lol. Plenty of other honest rescues out there in my opinion - and your application is free.Update- so she changed her response from just “ok” to defensive and trying to judge my character for being lied to. The bad reviews speak for themselves. A review is exactly that - my opportunity to critique. I was being nice. Now I strongly don’t suggest anyone go to that stinky run down place. How’s that for not nice Susan ?! Next time just be professional instead of spending a day trying to defend your gross practices by responding to anyone who expressed they had a bad experience.

This place is nothing but a scam. Sent an application and paid the $20 fee just to be told “your application is not approved sorry” barely 24 hours later. Completely unprofessional and extremely rude. I highly suggest for everyone that you should not go to this place.

I’d give 0 stars, a scam! Don’t waste your money on an application that most likely won’t get approved, go elsewhere where the application are free! Money hungry, don’t even bother.
