Nice place to get some studying done, or take a break from the cold. The coffee was pretty tasty and they seemed to have some home made pastries too. Lots of great books surrounding you to get lost in as well. Can get pretty busy during the day and the wifi wasn't very strong for me, but I got what I needed.

I came across this place when I walked around downtown new haven looking for a study spot. It is definitely a good place to study or read a book or meeting up with friends. However, I was not super impressed with the coffee or food. I would recommend if you are just looking for a spot to read a book or catching up with friends. They also have an outdoor seating which is pretty nice for good weather days.

Feels very hole-in-the-wall. Book store/trader with coffee, bagels, and some pastry. Their espresso is not super bold and sips quite smooth. I enjoyed exploring a bit and finding a couple books to head home with!

Vibes? Good. folks were eating, or reading, or working BLT sandwich? Amazing. The horseradish mayo was savory and subtle; good amount of bacon Oat milk vanilla latte? Bad and disappointing. Tastes burnt, no vanilla flavor

The vegan sandwich, To Kale a Mockingbird, was recommended by someone working there and it was out of this world. You can taste the attention paid to every detail. And, there's a lot of fabulous books to check out! Shout out to the wonderful people working there!

Food was excellent, and the setting was a wonderful place to spend some time. The person who waited on us (black T-shirt with a "SUNN" logo) was the rudest person we've met in the service industry in months. Couldn't care less about being polite, slammed the tablet around to me at payment time, was extremely curt, never said thank you, and seemed one step up from a total zombie. The woman who made our sandwiches was much nicer, but she missed out on sharing a tip from us because we couldn't bear to leave one after being waited on by Mr. Sunn.

When I say I LOVE this place, I really do mean it. To start off, the staff working there are passionate and have a very positive vibe. Always smiling and welcoming, and as I started coming here more often, I felt very welcomed by their energy. They say things like "appreciate you" and as someone that has difficulty with self worth, I can say that means a lot to me. Their foods are DELICIOUS, they serve baked goods such as brownies, cookies, and muffins (love the Blueberry muffin!). They also serve fresh fruit and yogurt. I haven't tried it yet but I am aware that they serve salads, soups, and BLT sandwiches. I am also aware that they have vegan options, for both drinks and foods. They serve coffee and tea with lots of options. The seating is comfortable, although I wouldn't say very spacious but personally that's not a worry of mine because they have outdoor seating as well if you're coming over with more than three people. I go there by myself and sit at the window seats and read my book. Oh yes, before I forget I do stay here to read my books for HOURS, and they never complain or ask me to leave. They also do sell books, which is usually $4.95 for most books that I have checked out. I have bought a book with an original price of $25 and ended up buying it for $4.95. The books are well taken care of. Their place is clean, and the staff wipe the tables every hour or so. I just love this place so much, gives me the time and place to do my thing while everyone else does their own. This place is definitely my safe space❤️Vegetarian options: Lots of vegan and vegetarian options.

Awesome little hideaway for a true and unique New England Cafe and book store, wrapped into one. We hung out for almost an hour, looking at books and grabbing food before heading back to Yale's medical campus. Convenient and close by!

Based on experience there was nothing good to report at Book Trader CafeThe person behind the counter was incredibly rude, slamming everything they were doing and was slow. My partner asked for oat milk and he clearly gave us whole milk in a latte, after saying audibly "we're out of oat milk." They still charged us for oat milk. They were also out of drip coffee. I took the milk coffee drink because my partner is lactose intolerant and the service was awful and we didn't want to wait in the long line again. The coffee was exceptionally hot and instantly burned our tongues. Coffee should never be this hot! Who's giving the 5 star ratings? Take your business elsewhere!

Lots of interesting, inexpensive used books. Great coffee and delicious, though somewhat overpriced, food. Excellent atmosphere. And ideal perch from which to observe stressed out exhausted architects get coffee from across the street.
