Self check-in rooms are only a good idea of the confirmation email actually has your booking info and room number; but when it doesn't, having the proper phone number for the hotel instead of a generator company would be helpful. Not with the Shore Road Inn, watch out for them to claim you trashed their rooms to charge you extra cleaning fees when you leave. Don't stay here.

Pretty disappointed. Basically an extended stay transit motel that's trying to sell itself as something else. Between thin walls, a pea gravel parking lot ( hard with a motorcycle) construction crews starting at 7a and pretty expensive rates and an extreme cancelation policy...... no management or maid service on the property to maintain on site issues....the rates would be more in line at less than $80.00 / night. 1 positive note, they will work with you when you need an extra day or 2....but thats probably because they were less than 50% occupied. Save yourself and go just a bit more into Niantic for better accommodations.

I had a fully prepaid reservation for room 10 at the Shore Road Inn in Old Lyme, CT for Saturday, June 25th, 2023, and upon my arrival, found the property unwelcoming, uninhabited and the room unsuitable. I reached out to them for help that day, unsuccessfully, and so I left. I paid to stay somewhere else that night.I have tried, numerous times via phone (7 times) and email (2 times), to reach someone for assistance. My phone calls, via the numbers they provided, have gone, thus far, unanswered or they lead to the wrong place or nowhere at all. My email via the website contact form and directly to the email address they provide specifically for assistance have also gone unanswered. I’ve read the reviews and apparently and unfortunately, this is a pattern. My attempts to reach Shore Rd Inn via phone:1) The number provided on my room conformation, specifically to call for assistance, goes to, what sounds like, the personal voicemail of some woman with no mention of the Shore Rd Inn.2) The number provided on the website, when dialed manually, was forwarded to another phone number with an out of state area code, which went directly to voicemail with no message - just the automated generic voicemail recording and a full mailbox.3) The same phone number provided on the website, when tapped and auto dialed by my iPhone, went to a business called “Generators on Demand” which has no knowledge of, or connection to, the Shore Rd Inn, whatsoever.I first reached out via the phone number provided for assistance on my check in conformation, to ask for an early check in. I left a voice message with an email address for them to respond to as I have a European phone number. No response.Upon my 3pm check in time, I entered the room to be positively bowled over by the overwhelming stench of Febreze, or something like it, despite the fact that all the windows on the back of the room had been left open. The smell was so strong it burned my nasal passages and my eyes causing me to cover my nose and mouth with my hand. There was a “plug in” in the wall, which I removed, but that wasn’t the source of the smell. It was everywhere. Additionally, there were 2 holes kicked or punched into a loosely attached, oddly spongy patch of bead-board wall beneath the air conditioner. There was no soap or any other toiletries in the bathroom or in the “kitchenette”.The smell alone made staying there impossible. The holes in the wall, lack of basics like soap, etc, and a sense of isolation on the property on a bright, beautiful late Saturday afternoon in June made me quite uneasy.Outside there were 2 unattended work trucks, one at either end of the motel, with evidence of a construction project - a pile of discarded windows and drywall - and there was a white station wagon, but no signs of life. No signs of guests or travelers anywhere, no way to reach anyone associated with the motel and phone numbers that went to the wrong places. It all made me feel very uncomfortable. All of these things put together told me there was no way I was staying alone at this motel even if I could bear the smell, which I could not. To be clear, I am neither skittish nor squeamish. I travel extensively, often on my own. This was a different feeling. Something was off - too many things odd or amiss. My intuition told me to leave and that’s exactly what I did. I’d prepaid for the room at Shore Rd Inn, then I paid to stay somewhere else that night. It was 100% the right decision.I don’t like posting negative reviews. I waited to post this one in an effort to give them the opportunity to reach out to me, at the very least. But not a peep out of them and I feel that people should be made aware of the situation before handing over their money. You cannot just rent a room, take someone’s money, then, should there be any issues, completely disappear.

My husband and I stayed here in August for a few days so we could explore the area and spend time with my brother and his family, who were renting a cottage nearby. My mother came with us and rented her own room. It was the perfect home base to return to at night after spending an afternoon on a Lights and Sights cruise in New London and a day at the beach with my brother. The room was clean, spacious, comfortable, and affordable. We liked that it had well-stocked kitchenette with a full size refrigerator. The owner was friendly and accommodating when we made our reservation, and again when I had to change it to a different date. We were easily able to get into our room using a code. It's a super short drive to Niantic, so we could easily drive to the bakery in the morning to pick up breakfast sandwiches and grinders for the beach and had plenty of restaurants to choose from, including in nearby Westbrook. My only suggestion is for the room to have at least one comfy chair, as it is plenty spacious to fit one and I would have preferred to not sit on the bed at night to watch TV or on the breakfast bar stool to drink my coffee, though I understand this is a personal preference. I ended up bringing in a beach chair for these purposes.

The pictures on their website are not an accurate representation. We stayed in room 9 recently. The bathroom included a filthy, chipped shower, a rusted radiator, the wall was dirty and the ceiling was peeling. I took pictures. We had two barking dogs next door who were early risers.I will never stay there again. I didn't even want to step in the shower! Oh.. and check your credit card charge. We had to call because when we checked ours, we were overcharged for the room.

Start to finish, Debbie was incredibly helpful, friendly and accommodating. The inn had the outdoor look and was small which is exactly what we wanted. The room was incredible! Most comfortable bed, decorated with the perfect New England/shore vibe, modern appliances, everything you could need. The room and property were as inviting as Debbie. For the price we got on July 4th weekend, only booking week prior, the accommodations and the closeness to all the activities we came for well exceeded whatever we hoped. It was perfect, reasonable, comfortable and made our vacation extra special.Thank you Debbie! We added a sea shell for you ?

The woman who made my reservation was incredibly friendly. We wanted to take a staycation during the pandemic and this was a great place to do it -- nice things to see and do in the area. The room looked just like the pictures. Very satisfied with our choice!

I’m extremely disappointed with our experience tonight. I booked through Priceline over a week ago. I have multiple emails with my receipt and confirmation #/trip #. Got in late tonight to check in. Used the pincode from the email to check into the designated room with no luck. Eventually someone else came to the door as our room was clearly occupied. Upon calling the phone #, a man picked up and tried to tell me that his business doesn’t use Priceline. One quick google search would say otherwise. While trying to make a new reservation via phone, man accused of us having a dog with us, stating that they’re not allowed. However, the barking was coming from the multiple other dogs clearly staying in other units. We decided to save the $160 and stay on my parents couch at their house nearby. Really wonder if they decided to rent our room out, figuring we hadn’t checked in by dark.

I went to check in and there was no one here. After two phone calls, I was able to get a code to get inside. That is a little concerning since it is very secluded, dark and quiet here at night. I was concerned about being alone but there were one or two cars there when I came back from dinner with friends. The room was large and newly renovated so that was very nice. There was a space at the bottom of my door that was large enough for bugs to get in so I placed towels down at night. I have a fear of bugs and the lights at the motel attracted quite a few in the summer. It is a nice place to spend a night or two but nothing spectacular.

The Shore Road Inn, a converted motel, exceeded our expectations: our room was clean; there were great amenities such as a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee machine; and plenty of free parking. We visit Old Lyme several times a year to visit family, the next time we need a place to stay we hope to stay at the Shore Road Inn.

The Shore Road Inn served our purposes for a summer weekend visiting Mystic, CT, where hotels are insanely priced. The Inn was clean and safe and the beds were nice and comfortable. A few suggestions: the showers should be renovated as they are made of cheap looking plastic material; and the Inn should invest in black out curtains. We had to cover a wide open window with a towel to get some privacy and to prevent the sun from coming into our room at 5:30 a.m. on a summer morning, and some curtains are much needed. At this price point though I definitely recommend the Shore Road Inn as a nice base to visit nearby Mystic at less than half the price.

We chose the Shore Road Inn because of location, but found it to be a really nice place to stay! The owners were flexible and made our stay easy. Clean. Quaint. Good price, good location. Call them for a good price
