Horrible customer service. They can't be bothered to help a customer. My husband is a contractor. They told him they don't carry what he needed and said to go to a different store.

Slightly higher prices than average but they store their wood nicely and they have a lot of stuff in stock, real people available to help you get what you want, and they can deliver too

Terrible customer service, they don't want to be bothered with any questions or small orders. Aside from that, this is a lumber yard that does not accept American Express credit cards?? Generally at a lumber yard you spend multiple $100's or $1000's and they don't accept a major credit card? I would rather travel an additional 30 min next time we work in this area than use this store for convenience because there is none.

One of the last family owned lumber yards around and I based my review with that in consideration. They may not have the same amount of stock as the big lumber yards, or as wide a selection when it comes to lumber or hardware, their prices may be a little higher on most items but when you buy there you're investing your money back into the local economy. Instead of funding some CEO's Hawaii vacation your money stays right in town and comes back around to other local businesses.PLUS, they're really the only lumber yard for MILES if you're doing a job out in Old Saybrook so if you're in a pinch they're the only game in town ?.I often complain to myself about the high prices but really prices are high everywhere and honestly if you're doing a project anywhere around there the people can most likely afford to spend a little more on materials so in the end it doesn't really effect your bottom line.Hope this helps. Best of luck to you out there.

Beard lumber helped me out big time. Have been looking for a window for my gutted bathroom for several weeks now because windows are on back order by 16-20 weeks. These guys went above and beyond and pulled some strings to sell me one of their display models that was the perfect size, design and model. Highly recommended!!!! Thanks again guys!!

Old school lumber yard. Good quality of materials. Most staff are the variety "I've been doing this for ages and I'm used to dealing with other pros." - So good service if you can talk the talk, but it's a bit behind most DIY/non-contractor expectations.Example: Staff seems to expect you to know what you're looking for, so if you want 3/4" plywood, but you don't know what grade you need they can seem annoyed by having their time wasted. So in short - this is a good place to go buy materials, but it is not a Lowes where they will walk you through your material selection process and answer dozens of questions. (Partly because they are busy handling the constant flow of customers.) Do your homework first and you'll do fine.

It’s been my experience (and I’m not a contractor) that the guys at the building supplies desk don’t treat homeowners well. It’s like they can’t be bothered with small orders or questions.
