They may be okay at auto service but they couldn’t figure out how to mount tires on my truck. They broke a TPMS sensor the first try, and didn’t tell me until near close when I came to pick up the truck and it was still on my OE tires and wheels. I had to go source another one, and was not reimbursed for their mistake.
On my return visit, I couldn’t schedule an appointment because “we don’t do appointments” and I ended up waiting half the day for their only tire guy to show up. Success this time, and the new wheels and tires actually made it on the truck.
The next day, TPMS light comes on and I’m low on air in one tire. I was able to get air in it, and bring it back and burn another day waiting around for them to get to my truck because “we don’t do appointments.” They show me some random piece of metal that they say was the culprit, but during the conversation they mentioned the new TPMS I provided was difficult to seat during install. They assure me it’s good to go. Again, I’d love to have this conversation at some point before closing after waiting all day. I pay AGAIN for their efforts, and head home.
The following day, same TPMS light, so I stop by the gas station to fill it up again. I apply the slightest pressure and push the valve stem completely into the tire, rapidly deflating it. Had I been traveling down the highway and it became dislodged, the results could’ve been catastrophic.
I swap the wheel in the parking lot and bring it back in. Being the forward thinking guy I am, I had extra TPMS sensors this time, and was able to get them to throw another one in. I wait ALL DAY and pay AGAIN. It’s now fixed.
Total time wasted: 4 full days. Total spent on mount, balance, TPMS/valve stems, fixes: $600. Knowing I’m never going to a Modern Tire again: Priceless.
They did do a great job on the balance though.

I never thought I would experience a shop that said they did something but in fact, didn't even touch it . I had to go to another mechanic to prove what Modern Tire did wrong. The front office in Rocky Hill is the most unhelpful auto care staff I've ever experienced, Zach in particular, Steve is ok I guess. So now I have to call the bank and dispute the charges and leave a nasty review because , yet again because of unacceptable work and behavior. It's called modern tire. Yet left with the worst tire job I've ever seen. Not just one car , 2 cars.

I am new to the area and went to Modern Tire for an emissions test. Out of all the auto body shops I have been in around New England, I have to say that Modern Tire is the cleanest and most professional. The entire emissions test took just a few minutes, and everyone I encountered was very nice, helpful, and professional. I would recommend this shop for any services you need.

The most helpful and kind crew of people here. Over an hour away from home on a day trip with my boys and we had a significant tire issue. They were efficient and helpful. Stephen @ the front desk was just the best. Proficient and great customer service.

Nissan Titan 4wd with approx. 100K miles. Had to get two tires mounted and balanced. Also, check alignment and suspension. The person you call to set an appointment is not the person that works there. They have a centralized appointment setter so be ready to re-explain everything you need done. No biggie though. They were professional and thorough. Tires are great but they couldn't perform the alignment because a bolt was seized on the tie rod (which they showed me and took off $30 from the bill). The main gripe is there was grease or oil on the drivers cloth seat when I went to pick it up (I guess from mechanics pants). They sent out a guy with glass cleaner and a rag - soaked the seat so I couldn't really tell if it got it up, I didn't get the feeling they were really into fixing that issue. I got a wet rear on the drive home. Update: after seat dried it only shows a little. Just careless end to good service.

Bought 4 tires and an oil change. They told me 2.5 hours - I arrived back after 3.5 hours and they hadn’t aligned the tires or started the oil change. They acted like I was the problem because I thought my car was going to be complete when they told me.

Highly recommend for emissions testing. I went on a Saturday morning, was attended right away, and my testing was completed within 15 minutes. Very professional and efficient. 5/5.

I have been going to Modern Tire consistently since 2022 and I had never had a problem until recently. I had taken my car a 2018 Ford Escape to them to have serviced in January of 2024 to have an oil change and while I was there replace a headlight. Last week, my headlight had gone out once again only months after replacing it. I called them and they said that if it’s the headlight assembly I would have to pay for a replacement, but if it was the headlight they would replace it. So, I took my car in to have serviced for a couple things. The headlight, an oil change, and a bumpiness in the rear left tire which I had assumed to be an issue with the tires that i just wanted them to identify. I had an appointment at 8:00am and had said that I needed my car back for 3:00pm to go Old Saybrook. They said it would only take a couple hours. At 2:30pm they had still not taken my car off the lift and had not identified the problem. They ran me up a quote for a wheel bearing and hub, an alignment, and new rear brakes which totaled over $2,000! I said no and how much just for the replacement of a wheel bearing and hub and the total was still over $1,000, which was completely insane. I ended up leaving with only the oil change and the headlight, which they ended up not covering and I had to pay for. I called Firestone and they would replace it for $450, but I’m still looking for more quotes. Today, my dad and I had jacked up my car to see if there was any wiggle room with the tire which there was not, so we are unsure if I even need a wheel bearing. But, we also noticed that they also lost one of my lug nuts and replaced it with another one and did not tell me. Honestly, it is disappointing because I have frequented here for years and it feels as though I was being taken advantage of.

DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE. I had an exhaust clamp issue and I had to bring it back two separate times to finally have it resolved. I then moved and brought my car to a trusted auto shop and they informed me that whoever did the exhaust clamp repair STILL had not resolved the issue. On top of that they also told me the previous people who changed my oil had broken my oil filter housing, not informed me, and put it back together and then let me go out and drive with the engine NOT FILTERING OIL FOR THE NEXT 5000 MILES. And to top it all off they also broke my girlfriend's car's dipstick and didn't tell her and just put the broken one back into the engine. This is by far the worst service I have ever received for such large sums of money. I will be filing a formal complaint with the company.

I recently brought my 2009 Honda Civic to Modern Tire & Auto Service for an oil change. My car got a clean bill of health! I only have 37,000 + miles and I appreciated their honesty regarding further service recommendations. Pleasant waiting room area and very knowledgeable, professional and friendly guys working behind the desk. Also, have to add that I appreciated an unexpected follow up call a couple of days later checking on my appointment. Excellent customer service, Modern Tire and Auto Service is a class act!

This is the only place I will ever bring my car for tire and diagnostic work. I had the pleasure of working with Chris on the front desk. When I'm not sure what's going on with my car ... this is the guy to call. HE LISTENS - something very rare in the industry. I can see he cares about the service he and his team are able to provide and ensures that its the correct service, so my time is never wasted. I can't explain how valuable that is. Modern Tire for the win every time - THANKS Chris !!
