Buyer beware. Having purchased hundreds of auction lots over the years from Sothebys on down, never have I experienced the theft/fraud of Greenwich auction. A lot won and paid for and attempted to be collected 4 weeks after the auction was deemed “abandoned.” YES, the receipt notes to pick up within three weeks, but without any communication the lot was “unavailable” in four. They don’t reply to emails and phones calls wind up with the rudest receptionist. “Wouldn’t a call or email be proper if you’re intending to discard the lot?” I asked. “We’re too busy and have too many customers” came the pedestrian reply. Funny, not how Christie’s or Sothebys do business with a multiple of clients. The reception did mention they resell the lots after the weeks so it’s all just scheme to sell the lots twice. Please, please avoid.

They don't check provenance of art work. Therefore, fakes are being sold with no recourse available. Bidding on art work is very risky.

I have contacted Dave Johnson,GA owner, 4 times-email & text, since December 2022 regarding a Chinese painting I inherited from my parents asking him to return it to me. To date, he has NOT responded:he has NOT returned my painting. I entrusted my painting to him to auction or sell privately for me. I understand he put it in 1auction. It didn’t reach reserve, it wasn’t sold. As noted, I subsequently contacted & asked him to return it to me. He blatantly disregarded my emails & text. Mr.Johnson’s action(s) or rather lack of them are unconscionable. His keeping my painting, to my mind, is tantamount to thievery.

Dave Johnson has sold our property on his site without our consent. I would not advise buying or selling through them.

I made the winning bid on Baskin print I dearly wanted online through LiveAuctioneers. I called the auction house the next day to let them know I would pick it up in person the following week. They said to give them a call the day before so they can have it ready for me. I called the next week told them I would be there the next day 3pm at the earliest and the woman I spoke with said they would have it ready. The auction house was three hours away from me. When I arrived the woman at the counter did not know I was coming, she called another employee responsible for collecting items to be picked up and he asked if I was sure I had an appointment for pickup. He went back to look but couldn’t find the print. Another employee was recruited for the search. The owner was called out, who was obviously frustrated by the situation and his employees, was going to look for the print himself, asked the woman at the counter for some kind of number and she said it wouldn’t help because the number had been changed. They couldn’t find the print. They said they would keep looking and let me know if they find it and ship it to me at their expense or they will give me a refund. I asked when I should call if I haven’t heard from them and she said a couple of days. I left frustrated, perplexed, and empty handed. No call from the auction house. I called 2 days later. The woman I spoke with was not familiar with the situation and put me on hold. No, they have not found the print, she said. No idea what happened to it, it may have been lost before the auction, she said. She said she would contact liveauctioneers to find out how to initiate a refund and cc’ed me on the email to them. This is a fly-by-night operation. I have a hard time understanding why they were not more concerned that they lost an item that had been part of their most recent auction and purchased. How does that happen? I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

I am very disappointed in the lot that I received. It is broken pieces earrings missing backs , brooches missing stones or dangling stones. Disgraceful! Never was mentioned that it would be this way.

I had a terrible experience with Greenwich Auction on Google. This auction company survives on deception and lies! Their item descriptions are completely false, and their services are far from professional. It seems like all they care about is stuffing their pockets with money! Everyone should be cautious and think twice before dealing with them.

Despite the incredibly high number of negative reviews, I bid in a Greenwich Auction today. I've never done business with them before and the experience was appalling. Despite providing screenshots of the public bidding history on Live Auctioneers, showing that I was outbid on a lot, they are attempting to default a purchase illegally onto my account. I've reported them to Live Auctioneers, and unfortunately felt compelled to write a review to warn other potential buyers. There is clearly a reason this place has so many negative reviews. Believe them. Don't do business with this company.

Poor communication and descriptions of items that are false. Will not do business with them again as I do not feel I can trust them.

When my mother was downsizing, she was totally scammed by this group! They charged well below the value of pieces. For a painting worth $8,000, she was given $150! Of the last 15 pieces that were to be picked up that weren't sold, they said they could only find 7 or 8 of them. Another friend was also scammed by them - expensive framed pictures that disappeared or were sold so far below an appropriate amount that it felt like robbery. STEAR CLEAR!!!!

Hired them to sell various item when we moved. We were not advised as to when the items would go to auction and everything sold for a small fraction of what were were told to expect "after being in the business for 30 years". After fees, we received pennies (very few) on the dollar. RIP OFF!
