I don’t know what took me so long to write this review! My husband and I have been shopping here for years! We love this store! So many cool things from clothes to jewelry to beautiful things for home. And the people there are so nice! Highly recommend.

You just feel at home when you walk in. I love that this space is decorated elegantly and it feels welcoming and practical at the same time. Love perusing their unique products and getting inspired by the dedication to fair trade and eco friendly materials. Thank you for being a great resource!

On of my most favorite shops in Washington and a must visit when guests are in town. There’s always an inspired assortment of products from quality basics (think hunter boots), to dreamy bedding and the furniture and design space down stairs is not to be missed. Extra helpful owners/staff and brownie points for the stunning gift wrap.

Stopping by J Seitz is one the highlights of our weekend trips to this part of CT. They are always so welcoming and generous with their time. We’ve furnished our entire house from their collections. Always a delight and they welcome children and dogs! Bonus!!!

TLDR: pretentious, stalking staff, basic offerings.I recently had a friend visiting from out of town. She spent hours on the road coming to visit me and the first place I took her was to New Preston. I live in a neighboring town and love visiting the village. It’s charming, cute and I thought we might peruse the shops for an hour or so. I was well aware that we were approaching closing time as we entered J. Seitz & Co. Shortly after entering, I realized there was no music, and that one of the staff was aggressively following me - standing 4 feet away but not engaging in a friendly way, just stalking my moves. I asked if they were closing / we were holding them up and they expressed that no, we were not. I have worked in a similar retail shop, so I try to be cognizant of these things. I also know that good customer experience means that you make everyone feel welcome and provide an amazing experience, even if it is 4:58 (which it was not)! And an amazing experience does not mean stalking your customers around the store. Be there to answer questions, offer help, but no one likes to be stalked as if they’re suspected of theft the second the enter the shop!! You never know who is going to drop $$$$ and / OR go on to recommend your shop!! I proceeded into the next room, browsing and someone came out of a bathroom, turned lights OFF in the room I was in and proceeded to act as though I wasn’t there!! Some of the worst, most pretentious service I’ve ever experienced! My guest inquired about a bathroom and said they didn’t have one, after we just heard the bathroom flush…. Like why lie? You could simply say you don’t have a public restroom, but we recommend XYZ…” I will never be back.>>> owner review : how is this “surprising” when there are multiple reviews saying the same thing? And there’s a difference between being nearby to answer questions and standing on top of someone staring at them, not offering help. Also, I never said there was anything wrong with having a private bathroom. But you can say that — vs just lie about having one at all. >eyeroll<

I have shopped at J Seitz & Co for 3 decades and always love my shopping experience! The merchandise is well curated and I always buy my very best gifts here plus my collection of clothes always become my most loved and worn pieces! I have picked up some great furnishings for our home as well. Thank you and congratulations to the owners and staff for an outstanding 30+ years! Don't miss this store in New Preston!!!

Gorgeous shop with high quality clothing, homewares, furniture and gifts. Staff is welcoming and friendly. And momma Seitz is so cute, you’ll want to put her in your pocket and take her home!

My favorite shop in all of Connecticut. Love its serene esthetic and eco-vibes. They know what they're doing here....everything I've purchased from J Seitz - even items I bought 10 years ago - I still own and use and covet, from tees to coffee mugs and jewelry.

Agree with the comment directly below me. Beautiful store, nice stuff but the staff is incredibly rude. They literally follow you around every step you take. On top of that, it’s pretty obvious that some of their stuff comes from China and Indonesia, so not quite sure why they are treating people like it’s a crown jewels, to quote the gentleman below me.

J. Seitz is a must stop if you’re in Litchfield County. Good variety and quality of products (home goods, clothing, gifts) you can’t find elsewhere and the people are so friendly and helpful. It’s no wonder this store has been around for decades!

Beautiful store, the staff seemed kind enough upon entry but soon I would find myself pursued as if I was about to steal the Crown Jewels. I’m pretty sure I’ve never been tailed before, but in an instant I felt like double agent in a John Le Carré novel. I spent a few minutes looking at onesies for my son while an employee stood no less than 4 feet away from me, as a cold sweat grew, a leaped over a display of fern and ivy, and low crawled into the men’s department. Thinking I had escaped my pursuer, I picked up a indigo blue khaki short that had caught my eye. They were beautiful, a size 34, perfect. Price was a bit high, but the shade was phenomenal and display on point. As I picked up my soon to be purchase and turned I was met by a KN-95 masked woman ready to snatch my bounty and refold to a perfect display. At that moment I heard a crash, my wife repelling down from the ceiling from a rope dressed in all black had crashed through the glass skylight for a quick escape... In all seriousness, not once was I asked if I needed help, and was followed THE ENTIRE TIME. It’s a shame because it’s a nice store, and was more than likely about to drop $150 on children’s clothing.
