About Custom House Maritime Museum - New London Maritime Society
The Custom House Maritime Museum - New London Maritime Society is a terrific and accessible small museum with an amazing permanent exhibition on the Amistad uprising and subsequent events. The museum has an incredible gift store and a dedicated staff who are passionate about preserving maritime enthusiasm among many varied visitors. The director and young volunteers go out of their way to ensure visitors have a remarkable time, arranging tours and sharing their wealth of knowledge on the history of the New London area and its maritime history, including the fascinating Amistad story. Visitors can explore the museum's connections to American history, and even go into a lighthouse, all while being welcomed by the wonderful and accommodating staff. Admission is optional, but visitors often choose to contribute a small amount to support the museum's efforts.

This place is outstanding! I mean, where else are you going to actually go into a lighthouse? The staff is amazing and very accommodating, and the passion they have for their lighthouses and the history behind them is palpable. I won't hesitate to return when (not if) I visit Connecticut again!

Wonderful replicas of sailing vessels. Good tour guide. Amazingly built building.
