“I have a 2014 Subaru Outback with 180,000 miles on it.
The check engine came on, and I took the car to a Subaru dealership. They let me know that the code was 2763 which indicates a problem in the transmission valve body.
They told me I had to replace the entire transmission for close to $7,000 versus around $2,000 for the valve body. I thought that was excessive and wanted to get a second opinion and took my car to Portland Automotive.
Portland Automotive thoroughly diagnosed the problem and confirmed that one of the valves was bad in the valve body and said I had to replace the valve body only.
They replaced the valve body in a timely manner, but unfortunately, when I got home, the check engine came back on and now there was a noticeable problem with the transmission.
I called Mike at Portland Automotive and he immediately said he’s going to send a tow truck to pick up my vehicle and take it back to the shop and make it right. Unfortunately, on the way back to Portland Automotive on the tow truck something happened to the radiator which caused it to start leaking.
Instead of charging me for a new radiator, they replaced it at no charge. They also redid the entire valve body repair and tested the car for three days to make sure everything was OK.
I’m happy to report as of now it is running smoothly.
I would highly recommend Portland Automotive for standing by their work and their honest evaluation of my transmission problem.”
“My car has a parasitic drain which is causing my battery to keeping dying on me. Although the exact problem was not able to be determined, I very much appreciated the advice and options given as to recommendations for who would be better at solving the electrical issue with my car. I usually go to brand name companies but this auto shop has twice now provided exceptional service and quite frankly just seem to be all around nice people. I plan on sending my car off to auto heaven and getting a new one and ex per tech will be my go to auto shop. I highly recommend them.”

“I was worried when it appeared that I would need a new transmission. I was concerned that whichever shop I chose, I would end up spending several thousand dollars on a new or rebuilt transmission whether I needed one or not. I selected Transmission Works based on the reviews indicating that the owner Ron runs an honest shop. I can fully attest that this is the case as Ron and his team found a small leak that was making my transmission lose fluid and perform very poorly. The problem was repaired in a day. Thanks Ron!”

“If you’ve ever heard, it’s not the problem it’s how you respond to a problem that counts.
We had an issue with the service done on our motor coach. I didn’t notice the problem until after I brought it home. I immediately called Mike in the service dept. And without hesitation he told me to bring it back and he would make sure I was happy. Mike never became defensive or unprofessional he apologized and took responsibility for the shortcomings. Mike promised me he would correct the issue and that I would be 100% satisfied. “I couldn’t ask for a better experience for getting an emissions test, it’s CASH only so that was the only minor inconvenience but I think that’s standard across any licensed facility. They quoted me 10 mins on the phone, it might’ve been 8.It’s $20.00 as of the time of this post.”

“I recently relocated to CT and had no idea where to start to find a decent and trustworthy garage. I started by popping in to get a VIN verification as they are less than two miles from work, quick and easy.
Last week I easily set up an appointment online for oil change, tire rotation and a brake check. To my surprise and delight, I was texted and told the current level of the brake pads and that I did not need to replace them at this time. They did recommend replacing both interior and exterior filters which I approved. This was a choice of convenience as paying labor for something I can do is just lazy...
Nothing was done without explanation and a system that allows for text approval. I was advised to return after 25 miles to double check the torque on the tires. I returned this morning, after about 200 miles and they took about 90 seconds to check it and get me on my way. I appreciate the follow up even if others find it an irritant.
I almost forgot, I left my jacket and Yeti at their desk and it was right where I left it this morning.
I expect this will be my garage for the foreseeable future. Thank you!”

“2nd time using Main Street transmission . Thanks cars lol. First time I had a Chevy Malibu with a 2.4 with the 6-speed paddle shifts rebuilt. And the second time I had my 2011 Chevy HHR with 2.4 auto with that one I didn't have a torque converter clutch it was highly recommended that I actually just switch out the whole transmission as well because of the metal shavings getting into the transmission. So I provided a suitable transmission with low miles which Mike and his team switched out within a day.. very reasonable rates to switch out a transmission I also was impressed with the rebuild time as well on my Malibu..”
“These are the most honest mechanics I've ever met. Another shop told me that my torque converter is bad and I needed an $8k transmission (but they told me that I could still drive the car?). Something felt off and I wanted another opinion, so I called Portland Transmission. They got me in next day. I dropped the car off at 9:45 AM and they called me at 12:30 PM with a diagnosis: it wasn't the torque converter or anything in the transmission, but a misfire in the engine. Went to pick up the car and they charged me NOTHING for diagnosis. If they were in it for the money, they easily could have told me that the first mechanic was correct or charged me for diagnosis. Very grateful for the honesty. Will go to them if I ever need transmission work and will recommend them to everyone I know!”
