I had already gotten my DNA results from 23andMe, but African Ancestry claimed to be different and better. In addition, it is a Black owned company and I wanted to support them. I should not have bothered since they had no interest in supporting me!Though the $299 USD fee covers shipping and handling, that is only within america. So, if you are external to america, expect to pay to ship the kit back to america. If I had known this ahead of time, I would not have purchased the kit. Since I already incured extra fees! A return postage paid label should have been inside the kit, but a return label was not sent with mine. When I contacted the company they told me they would send me a label. That information was incorrect, so they emailed me again saying I have to pay for shipping and handling back to america. That information was not on their website, nor was it in the kit. I asked that they absorb the cost for shipping and handling because that information is not stated anywhere. They claimed that it is on their website but when I asked them to show me where it is, they did not respond. They refused to work with me or meet me halfway, therefore, I elected to return the kit, unused. It cost me $33 CAD to return it, plus they charged me $22 USD for shipping and another $25 USD to restock the product, and I am sure restocking must have been extremely laborious, not! So, I paid $100+ CAD and have nothing to show for it, other than my disappointment and rage!!!!!!!!! Bottom line: this company is by and for Afrikan americans only! If you are not in america, do not bother with this company unless you do not mind paying the exchange rate which for me was $1.387 CAD for every USD dollar. Dealing with this company has left me with feelings of resentment and rage! If we cannot trust and rely on our own, we are surely doomed!Be warned: once again, if you live outside of america, I do not recommend purchasing this product!

Gets a 0. Paid way too much money to be told I don't have a African tribe on my mom's side with a piece of paper, then told my I could pay more to test my dad's side. No thank you, you got me the 1st time. I'm pissed. I highly do not recommend and I even tell my friends do not go to them, the cost isn't worth not knowing if they can tell you your tribe or not. Also they didn't even have my results when it was supposed to come. I had to keep calling them and it took an extra month to get to Mr. When I told my mom she said I told you it was a scam. The lady told me on the phone they go back 6 generations. Well my great grandmother lived to be 102, she was my everything. She told me about her growing and being raised my her grandmother which was my 5 generation back and her mother was black. So what white lady are they talking about on my mom's side???

I paid for and received 2 kits, one for my husband and one for myself in Jan/Feb 2022. It is now April 2022 and I have yet to receive our test results. Tonight was the second time that I email their office with my inquiry. I will definitely follow up with a phone call tomorrow. If I had to do this again, I would not use African Ancestry. I paid $1,000 and thus far have received zilch!

I paid $300 for a test to get my results prior to going to Ghana for Year of Return. They didn't arrive. After 6-7 months, the company let me know that they lost my sample. They ended up losing my sample twice. I have no confidence in my results because after I finally received my results, two random strangers on Facebook (Facebook group) posted that they received the same results as me. How convenient!!! What a coincidence!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! THIS IS A SCAM!

I give it a 2 because of the results I received. I did this test more so to see what tribes my ancestors are from. I had the understanding doing a paternal test may not have accurate results because slaves were raped so my lineage may not lead to Africa. But to just have Portugal. Results are too vague. Especially with the cost. Black people in America already don't have any way to know where and who we come from as far as the mother land is concerned. This DNA test is misleading. Even 23andme and ancestry told me my lineage is from Nigeria.

I have used African Ancestry to trace my maternal and paternal ancestry. They are truly top of the line. Their product and packaging is superb. If I have any questions I always get someone to assist me and they are patient and professional. I highly recommend this company to any African American interested in finding out their heritage. This is the ONE you want! Bravo African Ancestry for being the first and the still the BEST! Special shout out to Kelly and Tammy! Thank you!

I used this service to trace my son's paternal ancestry about 15 years ago, and recently realized how good a job this company did when non-African American family members had DNA tests done by 23 And Me and Ancestry. At the time testing was more expensive than it is now, but you get what you pay for, and the mass marketing of genetic testing has not brought quality to the process although it has lowered the price. African Ancestry hires scientists who know how to extract DNA. As such you only need to rub a Q-tip inside your cheek, not provide a capsule full of gobs and gobs of spit as you do with the other services. The results are highly specific, also unlike the other services. Not only is the country of origin listed, but even the ethnic group (which given the artificiality of borders set in the colonial era seems more important to me anyways). It took a long time to get results. The first ones were inconclusive and the test had to be rerun. This tells me the company is not just randomly assigning a genetic background and sending out bogus information, as another reviewer has alleged, because if that were the case there would be no delay. There is no lengthy questionnaire of your personal medical data either to be sold. This is a professional, scientific organization not a marketing organization trying to upsell you and make as much money as possible off you and your data.
