Amtrak has suspended it's shipping services, offering no timeline for the service to resume.

This is the worst delivery company I have ever seen. Our package was suppose to be delivered a week ago and it is still not here. They are not organized and can not give you clear answers to anything when you contact customer service

Their hours are 11am-5pm everyday so i got there at noon today after driving an hour there to ship some boxes. There was nobody there and the security guard told me that someone should be back by 2pm... They could not assist me and nobody from Amtrak was there to help at all. I wish their hours could be trusted. Nobody picks up the phone when you call their local Amtrak Express station's phone number either

I was so nervous about shipping my boxes through Amtrak express (moved from MI to VA) because from other reviews, the service seemed really hit or miss. I decided to give it a shot because given the low prices, it was the best shipping option available to me.In person customer service at both the Toledo and DC Union Station locations was amazing. There are a lot of restrictions on the kinds of things you can/can't ship, and you also can't pack your things in plastic containers (heavy duty ones might be okay). At Toledo, I had to buy boxes and repackage my stuff because some of the plastic containers were too thin to ship in. The Toledo Amtrak employee was super patient and waited for me the entire time, didn't make me feel rushed or guilty for having to re-pack. The DC station was great too. Amtrak express shipping is a street lower than the main station, and my bf and I struggled to find it. An Amtrak shipping employee talked us through the directions, even though we ran slightly past the closing time (6:30) because we got lost, and stayed late to help us pack our stuff into the car. Unexpected treatment, and we're so grateful for the help! Also, I thought shipping would take around 3-6 days but both my shipments got there within a day??? This likely depends on the origin and destination locations.

It's a true shame they are shutting this down. I just had the most professional customer service experience of my life here. Mike was absurdly helpful, friendly, and knowledgable. He helped me to manage my move and allayed a lot of my stress during a hard time. Thanks to hardworking people of Amtrak. I could not recommend this service enough.

I had an excellent experience with the DC Union Station location. It took a little while for the attendant to come to the window after calling but he was courteous and professional. I just shipped my items today, so I can only speak to the shipping potion of this. I’ll be back for another review after picking up!

**UPDATE ONE YEAR LATER** Worked with DaSean recently to send my stuff across the country once again and I want to thank him for his welcoming demeanor and for his quick service! He is a great employee and I want to thank him for making my moving process super easy!----The gentlemen who work here were very helpful in providing clear directions on how to find their location. Great for pulling in a car or u-haul to unload all your boxes. Good customer service, easy to pick up my boxes that I shipped from my home to here. My Lyft driver was able to pull into the garage area and help me load up.

My daughter moved last week from Seattle to Boston. We packed 11 boxes in Seattle, wrapping anything fragile in clothes and bedding (don’t tell Amtrak - says they won’t ship fragile items). We used a personal scale and made sure no boxes were over the 50lb limit. Using another reviewers suggestion, we used a permanent marker to write her name and phone number in 2 places on the outside of each box. We dropped the boxes, easy peasy at the Seattle Amtrak station. Total cost $370 for 11 boxes weighing 35-42 lbs each. My daughter also bought $2,000 insurance for $20. 4 days later, Amtrak called - all the boxes were in Boston ready for pickup. Amtrak beat us there! So they held the boxes for us for another 44 hours for free (max free is 48 hours). We picked up the boxes at Boston South Station, again easy peasy. All the boxes were clean, dry and absolutely no damage to the exterior or the contents (including the carefully wrapped fragile items.) Also note: we needed to mail 3 last minute boxes with UPS ground - all 3 weighed around 40lbs each. Cost: $85 per box. Made us realize what a great deal Amtrak was!!

In June 2018, I shipped 13 boxes from Denver to Newark, NJ. They all arrived together in perfect condition about 10 days later (in the window that they gave me). I used all the same size boxes, except for one odd sized item. I packed them carefully and then used reinforced packing tap on the outside of the boxes. I labeled the boxes very well.
