This is our go to spot for neighborhood Indian. It's comfortable/cozy, with booth seating for most and some tables outside as well. The food is consistently good, as is service. The staff is really pleasant and helpful. Prices are reasonable at the start, but they also send emails with great discount deals.

We were pleasantly surprised with our meals. The chicken makheni and lamb kebob was tender and juicy. The lamb seemed a tad dried out but it was tender inside. The portions were the right size. Sadly they do not serve bread, it must be ordered and paid for. This varies so much at Indian restaurants. The service was a bit slow but otherwise it was a lovely experience. The chocolate lava cake was intense dark chocolate and a real treat, as we usually do not have dessert. We do plan to return!

This restaurant combines the ambiance of a friendly neighborhood place and really good Indian food. The waiters are unassuming, pleasant and prompt. There are some real treats on the menu, notably the fried spinach and date starter and chicken with pistachio sauce, and an ample array of vegan options. We find something new to enjoy each visit. There is a full bar, and some surprisingly good inexpensive wines.

The food here is very good, and the noise level low. Additionally, the service is very professional and attentive, and street parking is always available. Cafe is much better than some of the higher priced establishments. Their crackling spinach is the best I've had.

The service at Cafe of India is excellent. The food is very good. It made in an authentic Indian style, although conservative with the heat and overall spices to appeal to an American palate. Please note, we have only eaten during the weekend buffet. The value, variety and quality are excellent. All the food is made with fresh ingredients and appeals to patrons of all ages. We plan to visit for dinner soon to taste additional menu items and to inquire about "Indian spice" options. The majority of the menu is gluten free and there is a large variety of vegetarian options. There is a beautiful party room available to host groups and events on the second level.

Great neighborhood gem with delicious cooking. Service is very nice and the quiet ambiance is a welcome respite from so many restaurants that are noisy.

There are several Indian restaurants along Wisconsin Avenue NW now. The menu and seasonings at this one are somewhat more adventuresome, not just "standard." It's quite, pleasant, and reasonably priced. It is becoming a favorite.

We go often, especially when they have specials, which they do often. It's a cozy comfortable place where you can hear yourself talk. The food is consistently good, as is the service. They are really nice people. Another big plus is easy on street parking. Good to make a reservation though on weekends anyway because it's small and fills up quickly at prime dinner times.

Thanks to the staff of Cafe of India. I forgot to read the fine print on my Groupon, which clearly stated “Friday and Saturday” excluded. The manager honored our coupon anyway. We were totally surprised and very pleased! Great food and exceptional service. We will be back. Tim and Gordon

I took my friend to the Cafe of India restaurant for her birthday because of all the wonderful reviews. We got to the restaurant and were mostly ignored by the staff. We had to repeatedly get up and ask for tea and if we were supposed to serve ourselves. We ate from the buffet because no one gave a menu. The dishes were fiery hot. I have eaten in numerous Indian restaurants and have had hot dishes and options for a milder spice. When I got up to ask the person behind the bar who I believe was the manager, if any of the dishes were milder. He got really arrogant and told me to look around that no one else had a problem and were all eating the food. We picked at our meals and then asked if we could order a mild dish of spinach. Well and hour later we asked them if they knew when we might get our spinach and they were annoyed with us for asking. They also had no naan for the first hour we were there. All in all this restaurant treated me and my friend horribly. The only person who was nice was the busboy. I ended up throwing away almost $50 for the meal and even worse was the constant insulting remarks. They should not be serving the public.

We go there often and are never disappointed. I get vegetarian most of the time but had a good scallop dish this time and an excellent shrimp appetizer. My friend had the same, she enjoyed it also. Their garlic naan is the best in the area. Prices are quite reasonable.

This place is small and intimate in feel. The service was attentive and the food was good and well-priced. One surprise is that they feature Indian wine, which my husband had and said was very good.

Go there often; usually get vegetarian. This time tried shrimp coconut masala, which was very good (the spices came through nicely, none dominating). My friend had scallops with vegetables in a tomato based sauce, which had a nice kick to it but OK even for people who don't like really spicy food. The accompanying rice was good and had a sprinkling of tiny seeds in it that added to the flavor (sorry can't remember the name of the seeds but they are common in Indian food). I also had spinach and lentil soup, possibly the best I have ever had, a beautiful blend of the two primary vegetables, neither dominating.

My family and I went here for dinner. Joe was our server and he was great. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. My family and I are vegan, and there were plenty of options for us to choose from. We will be back!
