About Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum
The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is a must-see and amazing museum in Washington, DC. Admission is free, but visitors must obtain a timed entry pass reserved in advance through the official website. It is recommended to book the first time slot of the day to avoid crowds. The museum is currently undergoing a major renovation, with nearly half of the facility under construction and some areas closed; the entire museum is set to fully reopen in 2026. Despite the remodeling, the open exhibits are very interesting, enthralling, and didactic. The museum features a great variety of airplanes, history, vehicles, astronaut suits, and knowledge about aviation and space. Highlights include the fascinating Wright Brothers exhibit with an original plane and the Planets exhibit with its walk-in theater. The planetarium is a must-see, offering educational films for a small fee. The visit typically lasts two to three hours and is enjoyable for both children and adults. The facility is huge, clean, and interactive. Souvenirs, including NASA items, are available for purchase inside, though they can be expensive. Food is sold both inside and outside the museum.

More planes to see at the larger Ugvar Hazy location close to Dulles Airport. There are some awesome exhibits, plus Planetarium and IMAX movies. The WWII exhibit was closed.
