Super helpful and friendly business. Really patient w my additional questions during an emergency fix, and my bike runs great.

Buna is a great bicycle shop. They are very good mechanics & are thoughtful and courteous.

TLDR: The customer service here was completely lacking and it seems that many of the positive ratings were left years ago when the shop was under different ownership. I would not recommend.
I dropped my bike off on Sunday just to have the tires either patched or replaced. I was told it would cost around $30 to replace each tire, plus labor costs, around $90-$120 overall, depending on the option I chose for the tires. I was told I would receive a call later that day to finalize the best option after the bike had been looked at and that it would take around 2 days to finish work on the bike. I was told I would be able to pick up the bike on Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. I didn't receive a call on that Sunday, (Monday the shop is closed), Tuesday, or Wednesday.
On Thursday, I called the number on the contact page of the website. No one answered, I left a voicemail with my name and number. I didn't get a call back. On Saturday, I went back to the shop in person at 11:00 am to see what was happening with my bike. The man I originally spoke to wasn't there, and instead a woman who looked like she was just temporarily manning the front desk took my name and number down with pencil and paper and told me I would get a call back, probably the next day. (Why would it take until Sunday to receive a call back when the shop is open from 10 am - 4 pm on weekends and I arrived just an hour after opening?) I didn't receive a call back on Saturday or Sunday, (Monday the shop is closed).
Finally at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, I received a call and was told that, in addition to the tires, the brakes would need to be fixed and it would cost around $310. I asked if it would be possible to just replace the tires. (I know the brakes are functioning and I just need the bike for an 8 mi race that's happening in a few weeks. I'm a grad student and wasn't expecting/can't afford to pay that much to fix every issue with the bike, I just need it to function.) I was told that no, the brakes had to be fixed.
At 5:30 pm on Tuesday, after just getting home from my internship, I went to the shop and requested to pick up my bike. I wasted nearly 10 days now with no communication from the bike shop, when I could have taken it to be fixed by someone else so that I can train for my race.

Buna X is not Buna Bicycle Works LLC. Please do not be confused. I am no longer a part of this shop.

I’m not sure who the owner is now. The head mechanic was a dude named (guy) phenomenal person. But then they started going through changes and I came into the store and there was an African American man who claimed to be the owner.
1. Work was subpar
2. Very full of himself.
Not helpful at all. They were supposed to open at 10. So I got there at 10… he showed up at 11:15. Not the best customer service. But if anyone has (the guys) number the white guy who did good work and was always humble and kind. I would really like to support him.

Excellent work from Fil on my TCR, going above and beyond. Pricing pretty reasonable for the quality of service too.

Phil is a star! Helped me out when I was in a snag on the C&O and had a bike for me to rent. Excellent service and I love coffee, so it works out great. This spot may be on the opposite side of DC for me but I'll be back.

Best/nicest people around. Group rides out of here are welcoming and approachable (if you're clad in lycra and like pushing yourself a bit ?). 10/10, stop in and at least get an espresso and talk with the shopkeep.

Told me a week for my simple tune up and it s been 3 weeks. Doesn't respond or answer phone or return messages or give updates. Finally picked up bike and took it elsewhere. They don't care or respect the neighborhood customers and bikes and hours are worse than bank hours. Never been treated worse while my bike was held hostage. Very close to my house but will never return

I was very happy with this shop under the previous owner but find the current team lacking in any sense of customer service. I left my bike to have a tire changed; I returned to pick it up, was not greeted, and was told to wait outside for five minutes because a meeting was taking place. No one called me when the meeting was over, I finally went back inside after 15 minutes. This lack of attention to customers is odd. The meeting couldn't have been interrupted for two minutes to give me my bicycle? The location is convenient for me but I will not be returning.Okay, I am commenting to the personal attack made by the owner of this store, claiming that I was drunk and hinting that I am a racist.I originally went by the store for assistance on a Friday and the owner told me to return on Monday and he could help me while I waited. I went back on Monday afternoon after a long lunch with some friends where we drank alcohol but I was not drunk.. They couldn't help me because they were busy so I left.I returned on Tuesday and there was a sign on the door saying the owner would be back in ten minutes. I waited outside. When he returned, he couldn't bother to greet me but went directly in the store. I still left my bicycle with him. When I returned on Wednesday to pick it up during their posted working hours, I was told a private meeting was taking place and to wait outside for ten minutes. No one bothered to tell me that the meeting was over; I went back inside after 15 minutes. The owner of this shop has demonstrated his incredible rudeness in every instance, yet he suggests I am racist who only wants to deal with someone who looks like me. In most cases when a customer is dissatisfied, the proprietor seeks to ameliorate the situation. Instead, I get called a racist. As I said initially, no sense of customer service.

Dropped off my 2008 road bike for some serious work (sticky shifter, in need of new bottom bracket, chain, cassette, chainrings, cables and housing, tires). Phil was very reasonable with the pricing and never tried to upsell me on any of the parts. Bike feels great and shifters are working like new. Nice attention to detail on the cabling. Overall, a pro job on everything. Would definitely recommend this shop to anyone in need of service or repairs.

Dropped bike in for a chain change and new rear mech- picked up next day. Phil is great, no upselling, just a friendly smile, and a “we got you attitude”. Highly recommend and will continue to support.
