“Love at first sight. This tiny corner market deserves all the praise it gets. Gorgeous, clean, everything I’ve bought here is excellent quality. The cold cuts, the bread, the meats, and the pies are top notch. Love the potato salad. Best I’ve had. Try to go during off peak times because it gets very crowded.”

“Canales' Cuban sandwich is a pleasant delight! I've tried a few different Cubano sandwiches throughout DC and have narrowed my favorites to two places so far: here (Canales Quality Meats) and Cuba Libre in Penn Quarter (whose sandwich I like a tad better).

The sandwich here is juicy if eaten soon after purchase (this is a butcher shop in Eastern Market!). It has a cylindrical shape to it, as opposed to the pressed appearance Cuba Libre employs for their sandwich.

It has a good balance to its bite, where you can taste the pork and pickles distinctly. The bread, too, was nice and soft, and it was neatly wrapped, so if you like to walk and eat (like my friend who went with me does), it's a great sandwich to do so!

The service was somewhat quick, perhaps a 5-minute wait time between walking up to the counter and reception of food. I haven't tried anything else here so far, but am interested to come back!

4/5 stars so far for sandwich quality, though perhaps a 2nd visit after another comparison with Cuba Libre's sandwich, it might go up to a 5. ?”

“We got ribeyes here to grill and they turned out well. They were all very large cut steaks about 1.5 pounds each. Their prices are not too far off from Trader Joe’s just around the corner and the quality is much better.”

“One of the best Philly cheesesteaks I've ever had. $16 is a lot, but it's large enough that I got two meals out of it. I can't recommend the sandwich enough!”
