After ordering a sub from Subbs by Carl across the street, I went to Family Dollar to get cash back. (Subbs by Carl is cash only.) Staff were very helpful at Family Dollar. It's set up like a CVS/store with all the necessities you may need!

In case you didn't know, now you do. Your household needs are met here with competitive prices. Feel free to fight your way through Walmart or come here for friendly service from a great staff. Parking is a little tight but be patient. You will always buy more than you intended but you will be glad you did.

Another store in DC treating their shoppers like criminals. I have a laptop and tablet in my backpack and they refused to be held liable if someone steals it. So I left without buying anything.

Edit: So I decided to just order what I needed from Instacart via Walmart, since I would not have time during the week to buy what I needed. The store will be fine without me as a customer. In the same notion, the Assistant manager needs to have better soft skills. If you are more excepting of someone stealing out of the store, compared to someone that had an attitude with your approach as a customer who was willing to purchase your priorities are skewed from a business perspective.
So let me say first and foremost I understand the demographics of the area.
It’s not the best place to shop, It’s highly survallianced at all times. Which I don’t have a problem at all. I know that.
Also the customer isn’t always right. The assistant manager of the store as soon as I came into the store said, “Ma’am I am going to have to take your bag”.
I was appalled, because that was first thing he said to me, millisecond of the surveillance protocol stating that this area is being survellienced. Didn’t bother to greet me, or anything.
Out of frustration I gave him my gym bag after coming from the gym on the bus. I understand everyone doesn’t have the means of always buying or purchasing things. But I intended to buy the stuff that I was purchasing.
I didn’t have this issue when I had purchased some things prior several days ago (Thursday, July 18th, 2024) when I had a heavy bookbag and reusable bag coming in there after work. I was dressed in all white at the time.
This has been a common issue with the NE area of DC stores losing money because of the extreme amount of theft in such stores that are suppose to cater to the community.
Unfortunately there was an argument between and the assistant manager because he refused to accept my purchase and informed his subordinate to refuse my business, I asked him who his manager was and he refused.
The problem isn’t the policy, the lack of consistency amongst the staff. Now if I was informed of the policy on that Thursday after work then, I would have not taken offense to the policy.
I get it, that ain’t making enough money to care. Like I totally understand. And no, I don’t want no body losing their job in this economy.
Obviously I am not going back, but I truly am disappointed with the way the demographics of this area are treated, and honest working people have to deal with. I don’t have a car, so everything I have has to go with me. But it’s very draining and daunting when I am coming from work, the gym, etc. and being profiled as soon as I step foot in the store.
So if I would have been told the policy while as there in Thursday, I would have adjusted myself accordingly.

An item didn’t make it to my check out bag, In store Greeter Antoine Ragland offered no assistance. Stated the store did not have a phone in order to speak to store Manager, would not give me a contact number. This greeter was stating refund policy to me about needing a receipt to run the camera back. I suggested I could use my online banking statement. Again, he stated refund policy to me. I have never seen incompetence at this level before.

I'm a Black woman but I don't think family dollar should have a bunch of Hoodrat Black Dudes working at their store. YHEY HAVE BAD ATTITUDES ‼️ I HATE going to this store because of these workers and their AGGRESSIVE attitudes. Iroes NOT feel SAFE ‼️‼️❗
