Meh... The Cliff Notes version: there's a time management issue. I arrived 10 mins early for my 12:30 appointment. This is my first curly haircut and first time at this salon, and I was excited after reading all the positive reviews on multiple sites. My appointment was with stylist/owner Beth, who was friendly and greeted me, saying she was finishing a men's cut. I waited over 30 minutes and wasn't seated until after 1:00. The previous client's hair covered the counter, chair, and floor. Although no one wants to sit in someone else's hair, I reluctantly did just to get the appointment started. Another stylist came over and quickly swept. After waiting another 15-20 minutes in the chair while Beth was doing admin things at the desk, selling products, and on her phone, I finally discussed my hair goals with her around 1:15-1:20; around 45-50 minutes after I arrived. If I were 45 minutes late, they understandably would not have held my appointment and still charged me the full price. So why can a stylist be 45 minutes behind? And for a men's cut? Perhaps he was a walk-in, and I can appreciate her taking the time to thoroughly teach him how to style his hair, use their products, and answer questions, but perhaps they shouldn't accept walk-ins so close to a scheduled appointment if it takes that long. There's no receptionist, and I sympathize that she's doing double-duty, but the setup is not working well. And if he wasn't a walk-in... well, that's a whole other set of issues. All said and done, I didn't leave until a bit after 2:30, more than two hours after I arrived. The overall haircut is fine, but it's my first curly haircut and my hair is still transitioning after years of straightening it, so I don't have much to compare it to. Beth was friendly, and I appreciate how conservatively she cut my hair and frequently checked in with me during the process to ensure I was happy with the shape. However, I disliked the curly products they use - it smelled strongly of a citronella-type/bug spray scent that I couldn't wait to wash out, and my hair felt like straw afterward, requiring a deep moisture treatment to correct. I paid $175 + tip for the cut/cleanse/diffuse, and I think that after patiently waiting for over 45 minutes due to mismanaged time, she should have only charged me $140 for the cut/cleanse, not the $35 charge for diffusing time. It's an 80-minute roundtrip drive from where I live to this salon which I wouldn't mind if everything were on point. I think there's potential here, but I doubt I will come back given the long wait and disregard for client's time. I think it might be a good fit if you live in the city, have an afternoon free with a lot of buffer time to wait around, and don't have to find and pay for parking.

Beth didn't listen very well to what I wanted in a cut. She scared me a couple of times with a couple of things she said in our pre-cut discussion. I told her I wanted more layers, that I wanted it to fall more softly, and that I didn't want to take very much length off at all. She proceeded to cut it bluntly and take too much off. It now feels very heavy and I'm already looking forward to my next cut, though I need to grow it out. I'm very annoyed because it was so expensive. I wouldn't recommend going to her.

I see Michelle for my super curly and untamed hair. Although, I haven't been for a while bc I can get away without a cut during COVID, I would highly recommend this place. It's worth the price and Michelle is the best hair dresser I've ever had.Service: Hairstyling

I think the stylist I go to Michelle is great. The salon owner Beth is terrible. She does not keep the salon stocked with hair color or product. When I text in advance to confirm the color is on-site I am assured it is only to arrive and learn it is not. I was overcharged for my last appointment. I texted Beth the owner. No apology but after multiple texts she said she would credit my card. Taps fingers 4 weeks later no credit. Fortunately my credit card company will not pay the full charge.

Great first experience. vickie took me on the same day and got me in and out of the salon with a deva cut and a wash and go. The staff was very friendly and it made me feel safe that I was the only customer in the shop and there was no use of Dreier due to Covid. would strongly recommend.

I see Michelle for my super curly and untamed hair. Although, I haven't been for a while bc I can get away without a cut during COVID, I would highly recommend this place. It's worth the price and Michelle is the best hair dresser I've ever had.

I've been natural for three years, and I started really reminiscing about how my hair was when I first did my big chop. I showed Michelle a picture of what it looked like and her cut was spot on. I don't have a picture of when she first styled it, that looks really good too but I prefer to shingle my curls so I did that in the morning. She definitely knew how to make my curls pop when she did my wash and go after the cut. She was also very friendly and bubbly.

Amazing experience all around. Michelle cut my hair. The location took proper covid precautions and I felt safe throughout the whole process. Michelle made and feel right at home and empowered about my curls. She took so much time, focusing on all the different textures in my hair, to cut it just right. I have a mixed curl/wave pattern so I've struggled with getting a good haircut in the past. Michelle knew exactly what to do for my hair and even walked me through some tips for my hair type. I've never been happier with a haircut and will be returning! Thank you!

I worked receptionist at both locations. I had no complaints working at the salon in dupont circle, vicky is super sweet and made work comfortable. Beth(the owner) was super sweet at first but when she asked me to work Florida ave, she swore it would be temporary. The Florida ave location required a lot more work and I was pregnant. Beth didn't communicate with her stylists at all, she sent me the salon policies in text and the stylists who been working there for years had no clue about any of the policies. When I would complain about staying too late and having to walk home she wouldn't say much, just ask what stylist was talking a long time, (same one every night, Michelle) beth only asked bc she wanted to make sure the stylist wasn't having people come in who weren't on the books! Beth wasn't in the least bit sympathetic towards my pregnancy. She would make me reschedule doctor appointments all the time and the exact moment I knew I had to quit was when Beth was calling and texting me repeatedly while I was in a sonogram appointment. She was even calling me from other stylists phones! When I quit, I realized Beth had only been paying me 13.50 hourly when we agreed on 14/h (minimum wage in dc) during my initial interview. Sweet lady but not the best salon owner or employer. She'll have the receptionist doing manager-like tasks only to pay them under minimum wage!

The owners demeanor and attitude is quite disgusting and unprofessional. She presents herself as extremely condescending with zero customer empathy. She straight out told me "you clearly didn't read the policy or you would know our procedures." How dare you speak to a customer in this way who is trying to understand why the business is doing something a certain way and was unaware of that policy. Whether it was read or not, there is a way to address paying customers. I will never be back again in life and will tell every one I know how unprofessional this owner is. She clearly doesn't care about her customers and speak to them with the most repulsive tone I've ever encountered in a professional setting. What a waste of time!

I rarely leave reviews but felt compelled to write one based on my experience at Fiddleheads. I made an appointment for a haircut and highlights and this was my first time visiting the salon. My first impression was not good, when I called to make an appointment the receptionist answered the phone by saying "go ahead". There was no formal greeting and I actually thought I had dialed the wrong number. I proceeded to make my appointment and the rest of the phone call went ok. When I arrived for my appointment I admit I was about 5 minutes late which I did call the salon to notify them. Just FYI if you visit this salon parking is challenging so give yourself some extra time. However, when I arrived I sat down and waited for another few minutes before being told that my stylist was running an additional 15 minutes behind schedule. If I as a customer had the courtesy to call and apologize because I was 5 minutes late why wasn't I called or told at any point that my stylist was running behind? My actual appointment went well and I left satisfied which is why I rated 3 stars. Unfortunately, I won't be back because I don't feel the customer service is on par with what I expect especially when I'm paying $335.

A good friend of mine recommended this place, after 3 months of quarantine my youngest need a trim badly! The Florida location is a 10 minute walk from where I live. Which is great! The stylist did an awesome job on her hair. She loves it.

I have 3c hair and sported a year-old balayage that was brassy and dull. I was received with a bright smile (under a mask) and quickly whisked upstairs to the styling area. The establishment was clean, having been sanitized in between sessions, land everyone in the salon (clients included) wore masks. I received a cut and color with Michelle. She is so adorable and highly skilled. Her customer service was second to none. Most importantly, my cut is amazing and the color is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I am really pleased and will certainly be back!
