September 2018 by Matt Porembski
I rented this space for three openings, with the artist whom I represented in attendance. Although striving to be a positive influence in the DC fine art community, this space is not a professional gallery and could significantly improve the management and customer experience.
Positive
- Gallery owner was initially very supportive and accommodating leading up to the show
- Kitchen on-site helpful for catering
- The main gallery is a nice size with high ceilings
- Several windows let in natural light, although this is not ideal for all art shows
Negative
- During my exhibition, the Gallery owner (an artist herself) took some of my clients to her studio upstairs; I was astonished at this lack of etiquette, especially with my artist there
- Location is in an alley and hard for clients to find
- The space combines the owner's living space and studio with the gallery, and therefore lacks the feel of a professional, independent gallery space
