I've been to Hana many times, and it always feels like a little slice of Japan, in large part because of the amazing employees. They have a little bit of everything, from fresh vegetables to noodles and rice to curry mixes. I really just go for the snacks, and they have everything you could look for. My favorite is the fresh bread they get shipped in. The store is small, but that's just because they've packed it to the brim! Bring a big shopping bag and try to go when they've made fresh onigiri.

Small yet mighty. This supermarket has the essentials for Japanese cooking with a couple other Asian condiments in there. If you're looking for rice, curry, instant noodles, or seaweed, you're in the right spot. They also have yuzu kosho which is difficult to find, but they have a nice, spicy version (love!). The market also has a small selection of fresh vegetables like green onion, mushroom, and Napa cabbage. They also have tofu and other items too to make a good stir fry or stew. The couple here are very nice and do their best to help their customers find what they need. It's very quaint, but it has what I need when I require Asian seasonings.

One stop shop for Japanese and Asian grocery. Prices are pretty affordable, even less expensive than H Mart or other supermarkets despite the location. Now they carry fresh sashimi!

i love this market so much. the people that run this place do it with such love and care, and make food and produce accessible that would otherwise be so expensive and hard to find, all done with the joy of being able to share what they love with their local community. great groceries, great food, great prices, great staff, great vibes ^w^

A tiny hole in the wall grocery in the city! They've got a ton of selections for Japanese groceries with amazing prices. Support your local grocery and pop in! I swung by for the rice balls so I had a healthy snack while flying back out of DC. They were easy to transport and refreshing.

This is one of my favorite places in DC. This is a super small Japanese grocery store that also feels like a community hub for the Japanese community. There's always things posted on their bulletin board and the patrons are always interacting with each other. It might be because the space is so small though. That being said, even though it's small, I feel like I can buy most everything I need at this place, especially things I can't get at American grocery stores. Also shout-out to the onigiri that they sell fresh. The umeboshi onigiri is DIVINE.

All the snacks you’re looking for. Also canned coffee and green tea those carbonated fruit drinks with the marble at the top. A dozen varieties of KitKat. Seemingly every Hi-Chew and Puchao available. Shelves and shelves of seaweed and furikake and ramen. I always walk out of here with three times what I expected to get! My favorites are the peanut snacks and wasabi nori-wrapped crackers.

Hana is a real find for shoppers who crave authentic Asian products in DC. The small shop is cramped with goods, but prices are reasonable for packaged goods and select green produce. It's good practice to support family-owned stores and local businesses that offer friendly and accessible service.

I love this cozy grocery store. I have been coming here since it opened and it never fails to disappoint. Recently, I came because I wanted to make a daikon pickle for my banh mi sandwiches (it was my first time making these). I came first thing in the morning and asked the employee what vinegar she recommended. She not only found me an excellent vinegar that tastes delicious but also shared a quick and easy recipe for pickled daikon. It tasted even better than I anticipated. Sweet, sour, and it all the right flavor notes with my sandwich. I will always keep coming here. Thanks Hana Market!

Inside an 1875 corner rowhouse in Dupont Circle is Hana Japanese Market, an immigrant-owned Japanese market that sells homemade omusubi (rice balls) every day. Run by a wife-husband team, products like noodles, mochi, and curries overcrowd shelves along small aisles. It adds to the atmosphere of a beloved neighborhood market with loyal customers. And they sell cold Royal Milk Tea, my vice.

Small shop, I like that they have fresh herbs and spices that are hard to find at regular American grocery stores. My go to place when I need sushi grade fish, Thai basil, southeast Asian sauces.
