Avoid all DC H&R Block locations and especially this one. My wife and I went in for a simple tax prep services and the person assigned to us had NO IDEA what they were doing even with 10 year experience they claimed. In fact, it was me trying to teach them how to file the taxes.
Then we found out that they screwed up our taxes from the prior year which caused us to pay $7,000 to the Government when it should have been a $2,000 refund!
They then tried to charge us for them to fix the mistake. We tried calling the H&R Block main line fore help, but we come to find out H&R Block does not help and they do not really exist as a company outside of their induvial locations. We tried to get in contact with the manager and it look us over 50 emails and 100 phone calls with no responses back.
Overall it was a nightmare and took 4 months for them to file a very simple tax form. Each person we dealt with was more incompetant than the last and we come to find out these people are not tax professionals, they just click through the software. Do it yourself at home and save yourself $400.

DO NOT GET YOUR TAXES DONE AT H&R BLOCK. This office was awful to work with. Super uncommunicative and made mistakes that resulted in me double paying my federal taxes. It took months for this to get refunded. I had to speak to so many customer service people to try to receive a refund for my filing fee, and no one ever provided me any update and any time I would call they would say that my case was closed out with no reason. Fast forward 3 months, I finally received a link to be given a refund for the filing fee via email, and of course the link to input my information is broken and doesn't work for me to be able to get a refund. I've been sitting on the phone with customer service all day trying to figure out how to get my refund processed. This company is a complete joke. They do not care about you or providing you with reliable services. Do yourself a favor and do your own taxes next year, you are better off than working with H&R Block.

Very unprofessional I booked a appointment with anette for 10:00am got here on time and she wasn't here all the other workers just kept telling me she will be here shortly . It's not 30 mins of waiting and she still hasn't shown up I left and went to another company that is professional

Would not recommend this location or Otis. They were more than an hour late for my appointment, extremely rude, and never picked up the phone or returned emails. Had to go to a different location and would never suggest working with this group or location. Beware!

Lakia Meriwether is an exceptional Tax specialist. She knows tax law and how to explain it to those who do not. She is detail-oriented, organized, and excellent at problem-solving. Ms. Meriwether offers timely advice about tax law changes, topics on the IRS radar, and potential tax planning opportunities. This is why I have returned to H&R Block for a second year, and will return next year. Thank you, Ms. Meriwether.

My husband and I filed our taxes at the beginning of February at this H&R Block. Charged over $200 (closer to $300) to complete. The only reason we chose H&R was because we through my active duty military husband would receive a discount (discount is for online self use). Although the lady helping us was quite rude and I guess our appointment intruded on her lunch (although it was an appointment), she received help from the another woman in the back (desk is in the back right corner) and we thought everything was fine. They both seemed confused but we paid and left for Florida the week after. We even received our state taxes while on vacation so we were at least satisfied with everything until we received a notice from the IRS that we had a missing document.So we called H&R Block, made an appointment and brought the letter and paid the extra $30 for the form we needed (which hindsight I could’ve just pulled from online and sent it). But the whole time the woman there (who answered questions for the first lady that helped us) would not do what I asked her which was complete the form so I can return it. She kept asking me if I wanted to see if I have an exemption (as in I had to leave to go figure it out and then come back). I get it but it felt like she was trying to get rid of me more than she was helping and at this point I just wanted to be done with this and I already told her no, I did not have any exemptions. (I keep all my taxes together and even brought in what I filed last year to do this year’s taxes—again the only reason why I went H&R Block was because I was newly married and though my husband would get a discount if we filed with them!) So we sent in the form and at this point COVID is full swing (and we know the IRS is already slow), so we’re just getting our federal return back now (September). I am grateful that we even got our return but I thought I paid nearly $300 so this wouldn’t happen. I guess I misunderstood the service I paid for. With that, unless you have complicated taxes, which we did not even though we were newly weds, active duty military, and had to file in 4 states), I would rather risk it with TurboTax or another service or maybe just another location.

I really enjoyed filing taxes with h&r block. 100% would recommend friends and family to go there as well. Great customer service, very helpful, very caring, and completely help me understand everything step by step. I felt comfortable and felt like my refund would be safe. Especially with the security protection they provided at a low cost. The filing process was quick and easy and I didn't even have to wait long at all. I also had the option of a tax advance that was on my card that they provided same day. Best part is it comes straight out my refund so there are no fees of any kind. And yes this is a real review I'm genuinely happy about doing my taxes with them?☺️
