I have been looking for a new salon/stylist for too long. I came in haggard after too many months postpartum and a lot of decisión paralysis about what to do with my hair. I showed Alyssa some inspo, she offered me amazing advice, and then gave me the most effortlessy cool cut- really getting my hair needs and vibe. Will 100% come back for color and future cuts.

I went in to get a curly cut by Chevelle and it was a lovely experience. As someone who has had negative experiences with curly cuts before, I was nervous trying a new salon but needed to find someone in the area after moving from out of state. Chevelle immediately made me feel comfortable, asking about my past experiences, what I wanted to get out of the hair cut, and just listening to my concerns. I lost a lot of density and shape after having my baby and have just been keeping my hair in a ponytail most days so I wanted a cute cut that would make me feel confident again. She trimmed a few pieces of my hair dry and then gave me a wash and steam treatment which —omg— I’ve never been in a reclining, massage chair at the wash bowl before! Usually that part is so uncomfortable for me but at Inizio it was soo relaxing! We moved on to the actual cut and style, which was great, and afterwards Chevelle gave me room to express any concerns with the cut or if I’d like any tweaks. I appreciated this and just asked for the bang pieces to be cut a little shorter (with curly hair it’s better to start longer and see what happens when it dries). Over all this was such a great experience, Chevelle and the whole staff were so welcoming and fun. Thank you Chevelle for everything! I’ll definitely be back :)

I came in for a single color process for my upcoming birthday trip. Decided to do the works to get my curls healthy. Chevelle explained everything, answered all my questions, allowed me to document the process, chatted and was very friendly, and was patient with all my questions, comments, and concerns. She was very flexible with last minute changes and executed them. I told her that I have red, brown, black, and a orange/gold (and as of late more gray) in my natural hair color. She said she already picked up on the gold tones, I get sun bleached during the summer, and she said she will mix up the color formula to match my natural colors. When she was done with the application, I could see it closely resembled how my hair was as a baby (bright/fire reddish/brown) and a bit darker as an adult. When it fades out over time I know it will blend just right.
She showed me how to do the curl definition technique for when I get home. When she was finished, I was so impressed! The curl definition was crazy! I haven't seen my hair do that and she set it and diffused to make sure i still maintained length. Chevelle also gave me suggestions and tips for when I go swimming on how to redo my curls. She suggested a different shower head since much of the DMV water is hard water and other styling tips and equipment to use when I'm not seeing her between color sessions.
She was so informative and pointed me to a nearby beauty supply store to pick up a new bonnet and a foaming setting formula, I purchased travel sized hair products that she suggested from the salon. I had a really good experience with her.
She even said I can still see my other stylist for when I straighten my hair in the winter, that gave me relief because I told her I don't like going out in the cold with a damp head.

Chevelle!!! That’s all you need to know to book. Chevelle just gave me the best curly haircut cut of my life. Not only is she the sweetest individual you could be lucky enough to run in to, but she is amazing at what she does. She is super detail oriented and she got my business for LIFE!

Wow wow wow. The salon is so pretty and clean, everyone is so friendly, it’s in such a convenient location, but most importantly ALYSSA IS MAGIC.
It’s so scary going to a new stylist because too often they just do what they want but from the start Alyssa made sure she understood what I wanted, gave me suggestions, and then checked in for my color and length asks — ***never assuming anything***. So instead of walking away with too short or too layered or the wrong color, I had the exact cut and color I had envisioned. It was also clear she was checking my texture and hair quality, And just *really* listening. <3
On top of that she spent extra time styling so I walked out cute too. Extra perk: such a delightful person. Ask about her cats, that Mormon wives show, and other grandma behavior.

A silk press from this salon destroyed years of growing my natural hair. While the initial straightening and cut looked great, it smelled burnt for the entire week before I washed it and caused irreversible heat damage. On my wash day, sections of my hair remained straight and others broke off all the way to my new growth. It took me going to two additional salons for second opinions and having to shave off my hair for Inizio to offer a refund and accept this issue was caused by heat damage. Until then, it was a long ordeal, where the salon tried to blame me for using henna, which was super frustrating (and not true!).
My stylist, Chevelle, didn't take my concerns seriously when I called to let her know what was happening -- I was told to wait it out and try a few more washes (by that point, I'd washed my hair 4x). Even when I came back in to physically show them, the salon tried to avoid any responsibility and blamed me instead. I was asked about my diet, stress levels, products I used, and more. They ultimately tried to say it was my fault because of previous henna use -- but please do your own Googling. I can find no correlation between henna and heat damage.
Additionally, while the salon offered bonding treatments to help repair my hair, they tried to charge $70 for a style after my first one and were insensitive to the fact that it didn't actually help. In fact, more of my hair broke off during the treatment. Someone who I believe was the owner was also quite rude and continued to blame me until Elena stepped in to support. She was the one person in this whole process who was kind and empathetic to my situation.
It's because of Elena that I'm leaving 2* instead of 1. She helped me get a refund for the silk press and cut after this whole ordeal ($230) and was kind throughout.
The refund was an appreciated gesture, but it's my hair that I really want! Growing it back will take a lot more money and time.

My experience with Diego was amazing! I got a keratin treatment on my lobelia the shoulders, thick hair with layers I am growing out. He listened carefully to me, took his time , and very painstakingly applied the keratin and ensured every strand was coated evenly. He then made sure to seal in the keratin perfectly! I now have perfect “summer hair” by only blow drying it! I can’t wait for Diego to cut my hair next! So thrilled I found Inizio and Diego! Book with him! You won’t regret it!
