Tucked away on Wisconsin Avenue, Los Cuates offers a relatively extensive menu of Tex-Mex and Mexican fare, starting with quesadillas and winding up with enchiladas, chimichangas and bountiful platters brimming with either chiles rellenos or chicken tamales. It's a setting that is small, intimate, and suggestive of the great Southwest. The flavors are fairly true to their origins, but note that the chef slips in some Yankee treats: a margarita salad with mangos and pork ribs fajitas. Dessert fortunately includes cajeta (caramel sauce, which is poured over vanilla ice cream) and a tres leches cake. Also located in Alexandria.
