BOMB bookstore, with an incredible array of Black authors in poetry, history, fiction, kids books, and way more, including gifts (mugs, tshirts, magnets).Very well curated selection with something for everyone. Love supporting a local business and highly recommend to anyone in the Anacostia area.

If someone not in the region buys you a gift certificate for a black owned local bookstore because they know you love to read, make sure they know you can’t use it in-store locally and you’ll have to pay for shipping (and you live nearby both brick and mortar stores). What a disappointment! And a horrible business model!

This (hands down) my favorite bookstore. I've been ordering from them since 2019 and they were a saving grace during civid quarantine when I was looking for local books (read: not from amazon). I've always appreciated their variety of books and clean and well organized stores (all locations). My favorite thing is their high quality customer service. You can actually get someone on the phone and ask questions before you go in store. All the staff I've ever spoken with have been so helpful. Keep up the great book selection. Also I love the email newsletter. Great way to know about recent releases and upcoming events!

Stopped by here to purchase a book as store opens at 12 pm. No one is here and there’s no sign up. This is an inconvenience as I needed a book in stock and the main shop doesn’t have it.

I actually visited the National Harbor location. The bookstore was cute and I loved that it also offered coffee shop drinks. The staff was helpful and very friendly. They greeted me as soon as I walked in. I bought a new book and a lemonade, and sat out front and enjoyed both.

Such a nice place/atmosphere! Everyone was discussing books/experiences and had a really great conversation with a random customer about random books that we would recommend. It definitely felt like a safe space. Pricing on merchandise was really reasonable too.

Extensive collection of beautiful books by and for us. I went to purchase a copy of Rest is Resistance in lieu of ordering from Amazon and found some other gems as well. The service was also warm and welcoming I’ll definitely be back; in fact, I can’t wait to go back. Felt right at home there.

Wonderful little book store inside a community gallery. Black owned and operated, featuring black authors and stories. I think this is smaller than another location that might exist. Not sure. Our curator found me some awesome reads!

When Sadeqa Johnson announced her "The House of Eve" book tour and that she would be at Mahogany Books (MB), I was beyond thrilled because I loved Yellow Wife. I contacted MB via Instagram DM to submit a request for American Sign Language interpreters which they never responded back to me. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and emailed them. They responded that they would get back to me. Again they never get back to me after I sent them a follow up email a couple of weeks later. I am highly upset because I missed the opportunity to meet Sadeqa Johnson today. We fight against systemic racism together, but when it comes to accessibility, you all can't do one job for me. What you did was oppressive and exclusive. Black Deaf people (and other Black people with disabilities) are constantly forced to take less than, and be excluded from fully participating and/or are simply shut out from opportunities. Please take a moment and imagine having to go through this type of conversation, education, and frustration every single day for nearly every single activity. Can you imagine needing to fight for equal communication access in every area of your life where lack of accessibility is a constant barrier? MB is fking bullsh-t!

I participated in their Black History month bag grab promotion today and it was amazing! Great books selections, lots of fun puzzles and shirts and the music is bumping and we got to meet the owners! Just beautiful Black folks coming together for the love of books, highly recommend!

Great selection of black authors nestled in the heart of Anacostia! Located inside the Anacostia arts center it's always fun stopping in and seeing what's new. They have a wide selection of books which is great and if there's something not available in the store...they are more Than happy to order something and have it delivered. I love that it's black owned and family owned with Good people in the store at all times.
