STUNNING building, only had time for the Futurism Exhibit but there is SO much to see. Stepped into the Contemplative Court for one second and tears instantly flooded my eyes. It is a sacred space. ?Going back and will update this review when I do.

Every black person in America must go there at least once in their life. Very eye opening exhibits

Lots to see and learn and be humbled by. You'll need a few hours just to see the popular History Galleries (slavery, Jim Crow, civil rights, etc.). Wish they had spread that stuff out more over more space.

The conspicuous oversight in the National Museum of African American History regarding the representation of the queer community within the broader narrative of black history is deeply concerning. This museum, commendable for its extensive portrayal of African American experiences, regrettably neglects the vital intersectionality between African American and queer identities. Such an exclusion casts a significant shadow over the institution, as it fails to acknowledge a crucial facet of the community's history. Despite its otherwise impressive and comprehensive approach, this gap highlights a critical area for growth and inclusiveness in portraying the diverse tapestry of African American life and culture.

Very informative! The exhibits are well represented and explained. There are also interactive displays and multiple floors to explore. You can also take a look at the gift store. It is a very emotional experience to see what the mentality of slavery has effected generations of persons who lived through it. Those emotions have been felt and passed down through the generations.

We have visited many museums and sites devoted to civil rights around the country. This was our first visit to the National Museum. We also saw they had an award winning cafe with a special menu of southern specialties for Christmas. We started with that for a fabulous lunch then started our trip through the museum. Starting with the early history of the slave trade and continuing through black people's journey through US history to today made for one incredible emotional experience. We spent nearly 5 hours absorbing as much detail as we could.
