The National Shrine Bookstore and Basilica in Alexandria, Virginia, and nearby Washington, DC, are highly praised for their beauty, serenity, and rich history. Visitors often spend several hours exploring the stunning basilica, which features numerous chapels, paintings, sculptures, and a crypt church that is a must-see. The basilica is considered one of the most beautiful churches, rivaling European and Mexican cathedrals, and offers a peaceful environment for reflection and worship. The gift shop opens from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, providing a wide selection of items suitable for gifts or personal use, with the recommendation to have items blessed before giving them away. The Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land, run by Franciscan priests, is also nearby and offers impressive replicas of shrines in Israel, Roman catacombs, a library, archive, and beautiful gardens. Daily Mass and confessions are available, making it a meaningful visit for Catholics. Overall, both locations are highly recommended for their beauty, spiritual significance, and the warm hospitality of staff.

Absolutely the most beautiful church I have ever seen. You have to really explore this place to truly appreciate it. Definitely go downstairs to the crypt church during your visit. A must see!

First time visiting and I love it! I would be bringing friends and family from on when they visit me here in Virginia. Also, check out the gift shop. Lots of stuff to choose from for yourself or as a gift to love ones. Just don't forget to have it blessed by your priest before giving it away.
