If you've been to a Safeway in D.C. before, you'll know what to expect. For me, I came to get balloons for my seven-year-old daughter's birthday. The woman behind the flower area was very helpful and kind. After choosing a big balloon and colors of smaller balloons, I was on my way. It only cost around $15.

This is the only safeway in downtown dc, unfortunately. But great if you're coming from the convention center, capital one arena, chinatown for the movies or dinner, 6th and I synagogue, Portrait gallery/american art museum, shakespeare theater, or really anywhere downtown including metro center. 490 L, but really 5th and L. Parking under building. Walking to chinatown and convention center metro stations. DC stores sell alcohol which MD stores do not, so it's really 1 stop shopping. Large deli and ready to eat section, and small dining area available in starbucks. Good selection with full butcher and seafood counters, bakery, and deli counter.

This place sucks. Store is disorganized, limited produce selection, weird people loitering, annoying/unhelpful staff. For some reason the checkout lanes are always closed AND a bunch of the self checkout kiosks are closed so it takes a long time to pay and get out. I'm gonna start walking the extra 15 min to get my groceries at Giant bc this store is so unpleasant and never has what I want.

They sell everything like other Safeway stores, but it's better than nothing. Wish they had a better veggie section

Pros: very convenient, there's often a good deal on something.Cons: everything else. This is the worst safeway I've ever been to. The quality of the produce is bad - things are not fresh and I've seen moldy food on the shelves (for example, some of the clementine/mandarin bags have some fruit in there are molding). You have to closely inspect all the produce to make sure that it's somewhat fresh. They also do not update some of the sale price tags - you'll see something advertised for 6.99 and see that the deal is already several weeks past its validity date. This is very frustrating since once again, you have to inspect the price tag. I understand if it's a day or two out of date - but for it to be several weeks is not a good look. You have to pay extreme close attention to what you're buying. As a result, it's a more tiring trip than most other grocery stores in the surrounding area.

Sometimes some strange people are loitering around. However, the store is open at 6;00 am even on Sundays. You can find everything there - meat, fish, fresh produce, snacks and alcohol. Also some personal care, pets care and a lot of other stuff.

Probably one of the most poorly managed grocery stores I've been too. Frequently don't have carts available. Always ridiculously along lines. They only ever have 1-2 checkout lines available despite having around 12 checkout lanes. Self-checkout is even worse. They rarely have all the kiosks available. Employees are frequently standing around or on their phones. There could be several kiosk lights on indicating that shoppers need help, and the only way you'll get help is if you wave them down or attempt to find someone. Shelves are also consistently out of stock. A lot of shopper at this location are locals that live in the area. If there were another grocery store nearby, I'm sure most wouldn't go to this location again.

You name it, this store has those issues:1. Empty detergent shelves. No wash detergents for weeks, sometimes month's.2. No bathing soap stock. Shelves are also bear. This also has been ongoing for month's.3. Low level moral. Customer service really lacks. I had a fall in this store in January. Employee simply looked at me and totally ignored me. Customers had to assist me from getting up from the ground, and then I had to personally request to report the incident. To date, no response from Safeway's insurance carrier.4. Constant low stock merchandise. I periodically have to drive to Safeway in Georgetown, which is totally the opposite!5. Front of store is constantly blocked with unsavory individuals. Lots of shoplifting and theft, and store security seems to always be on their cellphones.6. Practice of allowing employee's to not be clean shaven. This should not be allowed, particulary when employee's are around or serving food items.Doesn't appear that management is concerned about the issues that currently exist in this store, as these problems have been and continue to be on-going.

I hate to be a Negative Nancy, a term coined by popular culture, but this is one of the worst Safeways I have ever been to.As a former grocery store employee, I prefer to bag my own groceries to keep them organized. The employees get upset when you want to bag your own things then when you swipe an EBT card, they act as if you do not have any money. These employees need a course on customer service. I had to attempt to ring my groceries up twice and swipe my EBT card twice. That is completely unacceptable. Employees should be more aware and helpful to a DeafBlind HOH person. Employees act "ignorant" on purpose when people are attempting to purchase food. Finally, I found that the McCormick and Schmick's Ground Mustard was opened and laced. That is a felony of 25 to life. The lights are also very dim. Overall, the ambiance here is demonic and ghostly.

when i was getting into the store with my 5 year old child(we had never been there before) we were visiting a close friend of mine and when we had gotten in there for to get our cake we had already paid for it was for my friends child's birthday party ( that i planned for )when they accused me and my 5 year old son of stealing. so they took me and my fucking son to the back and we missed the party that i spent 500 dollars on!!! then they made me take every thing out of my purse which had and they told my son to take everything out his pockets even though he had nothin exept his body. so they banned us like the fuck we came in there to get our cake and we were told we were stealing like come on!!! bitch

Has been saying my medication would be available "tomorrow afternoon".... for each of the last four days. They're obviously never going to fill it, and they won't even tell me why. It's not even a controlled substance! Absolutely horrible, horrible service.

Went there today, although it was a good selection, I saw a mouse in the bakery section in the middle of day which means infestation . I mentioned it to the bakery manager who took a while to come to counter . Her response was "oh well" with a shrug. She was brown skin with braids... I will never patronize this Safeway again. Not because mice live rampant in your house and your kids look at them as pets doesn't mean it should be normalized where you work. & customer service do not comment on this unless you plan on reimbursing me for this experience. Customers, you've been warned.

Safeway's messed up again. I ordered food to be delivered between 8 am - 10 am. It is now 11:33 and guess what? It's still not here. I called them and "The food is on its way." That was over 30 minutes ago. They always do this. My advice? Order your food from Amazon Fresh.

The absolute worst grocery store I've ever been to. The parking garage smells like a homeless encampment. Tried to do pickup order since my dog was in the car. After 25 minutes had to go in the store to pick up my order and deal with the dumb slow woman at the customer service counter

Very poor selection of bottled beers. I do not recommend.
