Since it is open 24 hours a day, there is also everything you are looking for. The shelves are neatly stored and the staff are very responsive and fast. I highly recommend this store especially when you are in Washington D.C.
the prices are very affordable, a joy to do your shopping

Definitely the best stocked grocery in the neighborhood. But the environment can be chaotic due to system related issues such as disorganized stocking procedures, overcrowded aisles, and a very loud announcement system that seems to ring every 30 seconds. How has this store not found a better way for staff to communicate with each other in 2025.

Nice parking garage. In DC, that's a big thing. Love their deli and bakery area. Fresh flowers and plant collection are pretty good. A huge variety of products are available.

This place is generally not run well and is staffed by many rude and/or underperforming folks. Items are too often shelved incorrectly or mislabeled/mispriced. The only exception is an assistant manager named Charles, who is a shining example of good customer service, an example sadly his workers do not emulate. ALL THREE STARS ARE FOR CHARLES!

It’s a Safeway alright!! Mostly well stocked, though certain times you can’t find staple things, but maybe that’s more of a general city problem. Not a huge fan of the self checkout exit gates, you just have to scan your receipt to open them but it was jarring the first time being trapped lolll mostly because the gates are kinda plexi glass and eerily backlit with this cobalt blue, gives the entire front area this dystopian airport security feel. As a grocery store it’s fine if you have to shop in the area.

On Christmas Eve 2024 at 7:45 PM, I was harassed by the tall African security guard and the senior Black lady who wears glasses and has orange-colored hair. As soon as we walked in, the African security guard shouted, "WE ARE CLOSED," and the senior black lady with glasses said that the entire section to the left of the entryway was closed, not the deli, not the cheese, but literally the ENTIRE section. She said we couldn’t walk there because it was closed off.
However, we continued to walk through the store because Google says the store stays open until 8 PM on Christmas Eve, and it was only 7:45. As we walked around the store, I noticed that nobody else was shouted at about the store being closed. Other customers, were happily shopping.
This isn’t the first time this African security guard has profiled a brown or black person. I’ve noticed that fairer-skinned people aren’t stopped to have their receipts checked, only Black and brown persons. If the store is truly closed, then everyone should receive equal treatment.
I spend $2,000 at a store that was supposedly closed. If you don’t want to work at Safeway, please leave. If you are upset that you chose to be a security guard, please leave. How can you treat someone like this on Christmas Eve? If you don’t want to work on the holiday, please leave.
How cruel can you be? You don’t treat people like this. It’s messed up, the day before Christmas no less. This is disgusting behavior. The workers at this Safeway need a reality check and need to treat all customers with kindness regardless of skin color, race, religion, sexuality, abilities, or anything.
