March 2024 by Peter Pinto
I lived at "The KW" for 7 years, ending in January 2024. During this time, I lived in both the South (built in 2000's) and Historic (built in 1932 and 1935). Leasing agents will be happy to provide a tour of either, so I'll leave descriptions of apartments out. Suffice to say, there are a variety of floor plans and none (including the studios) are shabby. Some amenities of the building (indoor heated pool, sauna, gym) are truly top-notch. The rooftop grills could be much better; but the area warmers are a great touch for those those hanging on to the outdoor space until the cold becomes unfightable. What I want to focus on is the experience. The KW courtyard is among the prettiest in DC and provides its own welcome which didn't diminish during my stay. Once inside, the main lobby provides a fantastic display of Art Deco and contains an elevated mezzanine that often provided a comfortable (and very well decorated) meeting place for myself and neighbors. This brings me to an aspect of the KW which may appeal to many, and certainly did to me. There exists a true sense of community which will match your level of engagement. That engagement spans across KW hosted activities, as well as events conducted by the Residents Association. The initiator and facilitator of these relationship is often the in-building private club/bar. For the first time, I knew dozens of my neighbors instead of just a handful. Many friendships therein will persist. The staff is mostly friendly and courteous. A few stand out as exceptional, and I'm not likely to find their equivalent again: Giovanna (Desk), Lea (Desk), Michael (Desk), Anthony (Engineering), James (Club), and Vanessa (Management). There are some things to pay attention to. This is an old building on the Historic Side; and, while the bones are great, one issue plagued my stay. Our front bathroom would begin to develop an odor several times a week. It was not mild, and smelled like a sewer. Engineering was never able to remediate this despite multiple attempts. None of my neighbors had a similar issue, so I suppose I was just lucky. In the South Wing, there is an engineering issue where water will leak past the valves in the washing machines should there be a pressure drop in the system. This could occur with the briefest power failure. If caught, Engineering will race to everyone's apartment to see if the issue is presenting and pursue resolution. If uncaught, the washing machines will fill and begin to spill over. I once had flooding in my apartment from above due to this issue. If I didn't hear the water and turn off my valves manually, the flooding would have been that much worse. Some of my neighbors had this occur multiple times. In all, I highly recommend the KW for young (Historic Wing) and old. If you're a lifelong renter, rent stabilization with a young start will provide you a home in a fabulous building at a cost that's unheard of. If you want a home to age in place, you'll find a vibrant group of neighbors who are continuously organizing get-togethers and are genuine friends.I was in the middle, and figured my best move was to buy something. I did this, however, with my wife; and I met my wife at the KW Club when I was 46. Need I say more?

Janae, our leasing agent, was absolutely fantastic. She went above and beyond for us. The building is extremely well maintained and we are happy living here.

The act of finding a new home is a daunting one, and especially difficult when moving to another city. A friend's recommendation that we look at the Kennedy Warren was superior! Our Leasing Agent, Janae Frazier, held our hands and guided us through the process. She was completely professional and responsive in every way and representative of a staff cut from the same cloth. The KW is a beautiful, well maintained building where we are surrounded by a friendly staff and lovely neighbors. We couldn't be happier!

Wonderful place to live! Located right on Rock Creek Park/Klingle Valley between two MetroRail stations (Cleveland Park and Woodley Park) and on the L2 bus line. Beautifully maintained building loaded with amenities and supported by a professional and friendly staff who know how to get things done. The Leasing Office (Janae Frazier in my case) was patient, thorough, and flexible as I arranged to move back to the Kennedy-Warren while out of the country.

We just moved into the Kennedy-Warren and could not be happier. Our apartment is beautiful and full of character, everyone we’ve met who works or lives here has been so friendly and welcoming, the neighborhood is an easy walk to everything we need.Eric Ziegler helped us throughout the moving process, and he made a stressful move from a distance seamless. He took friends of ours on a tour since we were unable to come in person and was in constant communication with us as we went through the process. Every time we had a question, he was thoughtful and responsive, going above and beyond to try to help us. As we’ve settled in, he has checked on us to make sure everything is going well and has been proactive in helping us work out all of the little details that come with a new home, liking signing up for parking.

The following review and commentary pertain to Mr. Eric Ziegler, Leasing Associate at The Kennedy - Warren. We were Eric's first applicants when he began his employment at the KW in August 2023. He provided first class service throughout the sequence of showing us our apartment and the amenities of the building, negotiating an occupancy date, working through the application paperwork, helping to arrange for parking and reserving the freight elevator, and coordinating with the building engineers on various concerns. Two examples of Eric going the extra mile for us: (1) The ceiling light fixtures in our apartment did not match. Even though the design we preferred was discontinued and nominally unavailable, Eric managed to find one through extraordinary effort. (2) On our own, we were unable to straighten out two issues on the cost and payment of a pet supplement required in the application. Eric quickly resolved the problems immediately when we asked him to do so.Finding a suitable new home and arranging for moving into it are always stressful endeavors. Eric was instrumental in making the process as painless as possible.Five Stars easily assigned.Robert and Connie Faltynek

My husband and I had the absolute pleasure of living at the Kennedy-Warren for 6-1/2 years. Our unit was in the South Wing, overlooking the National Zoo and Connecticut Avenue and we loved it. Throughout our time there, we enjoyed the amenities in the building, the round-the-clock concierge, the helpful staff, the rapid response to maintenance requests (which were few), and the pride we felt in living in such a beautiful building. An added bonus was that the stores in Cleveland Park and Woodley Park were only a 10-minute walk, as was the metro (red line). And the L2 bus line stopped right right out front of the building. Leaving the KW this past March was a difficult decision for us, but we did so only because we wanted to purchase in DC. Our search took us almost a year-and-a-half - the KW is a hard act to follow. We will always feel fortunate to have been among its residents!

I lived in the Kennedy-Warren Apts for 10 years (until moving away) in both the recently renovated Historic side and the newer ('07) and more expensive South wing which includes concierge service. Aside from cost, the primary difference between the 2 sides of the building is noise. The Historic side's older construction and "thinner walls" mean you hear uncovered floor footsteps overhead, loud voices and tv/music from surrounding neighbors and hallway passersby, and traffic sounds from Connecticut Ave if the apartment fronts the street. Whether or not that is bothersome depends on personal adaptability. The building is exceptionally well maintained by the Beltway service company. Also the Kennedy-Warren maintenance staff always provided excellent service during my 10 year stay. There is a very active residents association (optional to join) which keeps management aware of general resident issues and provides social outlets. The more veteran management staff and front desk staff are very good. However, like many businesses since the pandemic, there has been a constant turnover among newer employees and even a lack of positions being filled. Largely due to the terrific veteran staff, everything has kept running as it should. The Kennedy-Warren is overall a gorgeous, comfortable and friendly place to call home.

My time at the Kennedy Warren has been fantastic, I could not possibly fault it! All staff and personnel are welcoming, friendly and helpful - and when combined with the resident community, it makes for the perfect and most serene living environment. A special mention is well deserved for Assistant General Manager Vanessa Jones. Since day 1 of my arrival, Vanessa completely changed what could've felt like an overwhelming experience, as many moves can be, to one that put me at ease. Her thoughtful, calm and detail-oriented manner made the world of difference - no ask was ever too much, and she always strived to go above and beyond. The entire team at the Kennedy Warren is amazing, and Vanessa truly embodies why I feel grateful to have been part of this community...and why I very much look forward to returning in due course.
