The worst bank I have ever experienced in over sixty years of internationalbank. Zero transparency, accountability. Customer support nonexistent. No matter who you call there, you will never be given a supervisor. TIAA liescasually to customers and wastes time by passing you around and have yourecite your issue over and over until you go away. Writing Customer Support is no better. They never answer except to mail you a form letter that ignoreseverything you related and says (even after promising you "your funds aresafe with us") "we will reply to you shortly." That never happens. They closed our two accounts without warning, notice or explanation and left usto their lies. "Inactivity" is because we don't go online with them, but theycould have apprised us our savings are in peril. Not even BBB-approved, they have the worst reviews we have ever seen for a bank. They claim ourmoney has been sent to the State Unclaimed Property division, but now many weeks later the State disclaims any knowledge of what TIAA has doneto our funds. No phone number for key personnel, no email for them thatdoes not bounce back from their phony addresses. They have sealed themselves away from their clients so they can do their dirty work undisturbed. Even the TIAA CEO, $20-million-per-year ignores all correspondence and the bank head, a Mr Fischer, cannot be reached. Theylie, they cheat, they steal, defying bank protocol. Meanwhile, Ms Duckettpreaches "Character" moralizing ad nauseum at Wharton Commencementthe other day. Lipstick on a pig. She runs an evil operation and poses as amoral guide to the young. Unclaimed Property says check back in a year tosee if the money ever gets there but expect a 90-day return once the fundsare located. If ever!

Do NOT trust TIAA. I have my 403B through them and highly regret not moving it out earlier when I left the employer associated with them. The customer service reps will give you completely false information, and when that causes you losses and other problems, they just apologize and that's the end of it. There's simply NO accountability, and no one you can trust to actually be honest with or help you. This has happened to me multiple times. At this point, I believe they are using their reputation to intentionally scam their customers. I plan to report TIAA, and if you have had similar experiences, I hope you will as well.

TIAA is the worst. They say they have no way to close my account, yet I have had zero money in the account for years. The vesting period from my former employer has long since past. Yet I call customer service and they say it is impossible - they are physically unable to close my account? Is this communists China? I can chose any retirement party I want, except the only choice available is TIAA? Why do I still need to have my personal data associated with a company that clearly has not learned how to add a delete button in a database?

TL:DR: TIAA customer services have failed to resolve an issue that has been going on for months. They have not been able to complete a rollover even after repeated requests, repeated rehashing of the issue, and even having the new company on the phone to explain to them what to do. TIAA has been totally in capable of handling a basic financial transaction. I have been dealing with TIAA for months with a similar problem posted by other reviewers. I requested a rollover from TIAA to another financial service and for MONTHS I have been getting letters from the new company that TIAA has not been including the right paperwork with the checks. I suppose I should be grateful that they are at least sending the checks. I was told when I originally made the rollover request to include the paperwork from the new company along with the rollover request. At first it was fine... mostly. When TIAA sends the rollover checks to the new retirement account, apparently the supplementary paperwork arrived separately and much later. It looks like, for some reason that makes absolutely no sense, separate offices send the forms and the checks. That was confirmed to me a couple months ago. But still, they checks and the paperwork got there eventually. In the spring I began noticing that the payments weren't being deposited at all. I had to fill out another form for the new year, fine, I did. I used the secure messaging feature in my TIAA account to send the request along with the updated form. No response. A couple of months go by, I am getting phone calls from the new company that my checks don't have the right forms and are being sent back. I call TIAA explain the issue and the response from the person on the phone is "what do you want us to do?" He had no idea how to handle this transaction and I had to spend 20 minutes explaining the history and what the new company needed. Finally, he said ok he would get the form from my file and take care of it. Another month goes by and I get calls again from the new company. Same issue. I send ANOTHER message though the secure messaging system requesting they send the updated forms that I attached. I get a response saying they don't have any forms and there are instructions on how to get the form in question (which by they way I already mentioned in the initial email). I spent 3 hours on the phone with them in November to FINALLY get the resolved. I get on the line with getting both TIAA and the new company the same time so they could talk to each other and straighten out what the both need. Even after that I get a call today that the rollover checks are STILL not being submitted with the right paperwork. Every time I've called TIAA I've had to waste 15-30 minutes rehashing the problem. No one I talk ever has any idea how to handle a rollover and I have to spend another 30 minutes waiting while the person on the phone gets someone to explain how to do it. I even received an email from someone in customer service saying they tried to contact me except I can easily see on my call log that there was in fact no call from TIAA. Called today because again I received a call that the checks are not being sent with the right paperwork. More explaining, more time on hold, and more assurances that the problem will be addressed. Apparently TIAA had sent the form to the wrong office internally and the new form would be sent within 5 days. "Can I get a confirmation email?" "No we don't have the capability to do that." "But what about that secure messaging system?" "We aren't allowed to access that." "Can one of the people working this send me a confirmation?" "No, they don't communicate with the public." (That was my favorite. Very "Office Space".) Stay away from TIAA. They will hold your money hostage.

This office probably is more challenging than any I’ve worked with to execute any business. Reception service is no help, constantly just tell you to call the National call center. Better to take your financial business elsewhere.

After i posted this I got another message from TIAA through yelp - this time it was Corporate Marketing. I responded and as always it was another dead end. I see a pattern and this is very disturbing. Each time they do this I see that they have this down to an art. The person's job description says 'search engine maximization' - so i guess that's a tier up from the folks who deleted my FB posts. Also makes sense why they can disregard another persons troubles as easily as they do. It's their job. 1) i called on Wednesday 12/12/2018 and I spoke to a lady who told me the reason that i cannot get my annuities was because my plan was structured and that would mess up the interest for the entire group ect., and from the day i entered into the 5 year annuity I gave up the right to access my funds. I think she was the only person that i spoke to who genuinely believed that i cannot access my money. She transfers me after 20 mins 2) This man told me I could have accessed it if i asked the first year which went against what the first person said. He also said that 403(b) does NOT allow the hardship witdrawal - i tell him that doesnt make sense beacsue the IRS website says it does and if anyone should have fleibility accessing funds its government workers and non profits etc., (compared to the 401(k). Then he tries to redefine "contract" and after I gave him proof of that everything he said was incorrect - i am not trying to go shopping and i need this right now he tells 'i am so sorry to hear about to your issues and wish you all the best but i am not going to give you the money today.' 2) then i send a message through FB - not a post - a direct message because I thought maybe this man was just evil or something and i got a reply two seconds later and they said they are following up etc., I give them my information and i said i have finals exams on thursday so i cannot talk much but i will call back or email - just please let me know what is going on. 3) Thursday 12/13/2018 a woman calls me at 10am to talk and I tell her the story a bit because i have exams - she said that they've pulled up my file and they're looking in to how they can sort it out and she will be in touch ASAP. I don't hear back but at night i see my TIAA profile online has been updated in a corner somewhere and they have denied my request after a spoke to the woman that day. but i am not sure so i go on fb and dm them and ask for an update. the message is SEEN but no reply 3) Friday i dm them again and a few hours later i get a voicemail from the lady who called me 12/20/18 Thursday and she says just call her directly and they're still looking in to it. I call her back and leave a message asking for an update. She calls me at 4:45pm and says that there's no way they can do it because - It was not a 403 (b) - ?!?!? Then I tell her the statement has it on top. Then she says that when i changed it to an annuity i gave away the right to a hardship withdrawal??? She tells me you're getting a payment in two weeks anyway cant she just give me a letter for it. She says she doesn't know what to say. 4) I post on FB - not dm, post. because i am angry about the run around - its crazy - its not right and that is why they have to make things up because it is not true that THIS TIAA plan does not allow for hardship withdrawals. My FB posts are deleted. 5) The weekend I posted on YELP and honestly i am now looking into my contract and trying to figure out what they are talking about - am i wrong - is the IRS lying? Nope. The IRS is right. I am finding now that i was not given the correct information the first time i called and i am finding out all sorts of information online. I was not given any advice on rolling over or the flexibility of the annuities - the had posted to my online account years ago. The customer reviews - they all say what i am saying - TIAA will make you run around. 6) Monday morning (12/17/18) I get a letter in my profile f
