I had a blood draw on September 3, 2024, at the LabCorp Laboratory located at 850 S State St, Dover, DE. The check-in process was quick and straightforward, but the experience with the phlebotomist was deeply concerning. As a current phlebotomy student, I was closely observing the procedure, and several issues stood out:
1. After applying the tourniquet, the phlebotomist failed to release it once the needle was inserted, which is a critical step to ensure proper blood flow.
2. The phlebotomist mentioned she was tired because it was early in the morning and seemed perplexed as to why my blood was not filling the tube quickly. I pointed out that releasing the tourniquet after inserting the tube would improve blood flow, but she dismissed my suggestion, insisting that wasn’t the issue.
3. The tourniquet remained on my arm even as the needle was removed, only being released afterward. Upon releasing the tourniquet, blood immediately shot out in a steady stream.
4. After the needle was removed, the phlebotomist applied a single gauze pad and advised me to keep it on for 2-3 minutes without securing it properly with adequate pressure.
As I walked to my car, I noticed blood running down my arm because the single gauze pad wasn’t sufficient to stop the bleeding, and the tape was not tight enough to maintain pressure. This entire experience was unacceptable and could have been avoided with proper procedure.
LabCorp needs to address this situation seriously, as the phlebotomist’s actions were not just improper—they posed a safety risk and displayed negligence. Concerns that I brought up during this blood draw- is a clear case of medical gaslighting, where patient concerns are dismissed without proper consideration. Always advocate for your health and don’t hesitate to speak up if something doesn’t feel right. Your safety and well-being matter.

I am going to base my rating on my last few visits, which were not problematic. In the past, it was a mixed bag of experiences and I would have rated lower. Lately things have been consistently fine.

I thought the Staff was very courteous and professional. I did not wait long to be seen. I was satisfied with my service.

The line was long but didn't go at an optimal time, so that's kind of on us. Organizing of the people was sloppy and we weren't really given a wait time.

Saturday hours are WRONG ON GOOGLE. They close at 10:00am not 11:00am. Drove over here in the rain with my 2 year old and discovered that 🙃

Absolute nightmare of a place. Wife went to have her blood drawn. No organization. She got put into room 3. Did a urine sample first came back into the room for blood draw and someone else was in there getting there blood taken. They then call her in to take her blood. With the other persons blood still in the room and did not clean between people.

I had a physical on Monday and was given a FIT Test Kit to drop off at the lab. I work from home and had a window to drop it off. I checked to see what times they were open and they close at 1:30pm M-F. I arrived with about 6 minutes to spare. The lab tech behind the desk was on her cell phone and when she finally acknowledged me, she asked if she could help me. I told her why I was there and she was perplexed with my answer, so I said it again and then she told me to sign in.There was no one else in the waiting room and now there were 5 techs behind the glass window. They called my name and I handed the specimen in the kit and the tech was once again, perplexed. An older, worn tech stepped up and proceeded to bash the office next to them and said they dropped off several kits yesterday and said, "they always do this". I replied that I was given the kit on Monday at my appointment. She responds with a snarky tone, "well, we'll just give them the benefit of the doubt."They refused to accept my specimen, handed me a new kit and the older tech says, "No need to mail it!". I responded with, "Right, because I have to drop it off, correct?" She laughs, "yes". I replied, "It isn't very convenient when you close at 1:30pm every day!"Horrible customer service. It was obvious they all wanted to leave.A 7 hour work day and they can't wait to head out the door, rather than offer to fill out the necessary labels to use my sample.Bad mouthing the clinic with 27 providers right next to your office is not a good idea, either. Now, I have to do it all over again, find a window in the MIDDLE of my work morning to drop off a sample with this very specific tube of the exact same preservative as the one before.I will most certainly let people know there are multiple sites for LabCorp in this area and not just this one.

Came in for a pre employment drug screening. I was told the only way to check it was via kiosks in the lobby. The kiosk I used was damaged. It swayed like it was going to fall over if I pushed the screen too hard and the "tray" to hold the ID was missing. Also there were no apparent accessibility options on the kiosk and I was required to enter in personal information such as my birthrate and address in full view of the rest of the lobby. I don't feel that Labcorp cares about the confidentiality of my personal information

I have had lab work performed at this particular Labcorp before and I was satisfied then and I am more than satisfied now. They have a new routine of checking in for your appointment which is fantastic. You place your driver's license on the reader and the information shows up on the reader. You do not have any human interaction at all. When you are about to be called a text is sent to you. I did my lab test, blood test and I was out of Labcorp in 35 minutes. Staff was courteous and did their job with great efficiency and experience.
