An outstanding Italian restaurant in downtown Newark. Great menu selection infusing all of your Italian standards that you'd expect and also a decent beer and cocktail offering. We had three couples in our group and the service was quick and everything came out correctly. My only complaint was that our server didn't come back often enough to check on us and so we had to finally flag someone else down to get more drinks and the check.Parking: There is no parking for the restaurant but there are several paid lots nearby. Just don't be late getting back to your car as it's a $35 ticket!

Debated between 4 and 5 stars but decided on 5 due to service and overall experience. We came to look at the University of Delaware and Taverna had great reviews so we booked a dinner there. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended because this place gets very busy and appears to be a popular spot on Main St. The atmosphere is great, kind of industrial barn with some modern touches. Our server, Sean, was very attentive and never forgot about us. He checked in and knew the menu very well. Between three of us we had a pepperoni pizza, the gnocchi genovese and the cacio e pepi. Our daughter said the pizza was good, just a bit greasier than she expected. The caci e pepe had great flavor but was a smaller portion then expected. My husband had some of her pizza as he finished the pasta and was still hungry. The gnocchi had a yummy sauce but was overcooked and sadly, mushy. We also had the ricotta and balsamic appetizer, which was delicious and the warm bread brought to our table was fantastic. We would absolutely return and try some different items. I would say you could try any of the things we got and be happy as I'm thinking the gnocchi was a fluke that it just wasn't cooked right that night. Maybe get a salad or another side if you get a pasta dish. The salmon looked really good so maybe I'd try that next time. Also happy to say that the bathrooms were VERY clean. It's worth a stop if you are in the area.

Amazing dinner. Loved the service and food. We made a reservation, were seated on time and our food came out really quick. This is our second time here and the service and food was as good as our first. Can't wait to go back again.

It was fine— we mostly came for drinks and ended up having dinner. Our friend cannot eat gluten so she was really happy. I had the lasagna which was...fine. Nothing earth shaking. My wife had the Chicken Taverna which she said was off from previous times. Taverna is kind of an easy go to for decent meals on Main St. but it's a very limited situation for people wanting to eat well generally, so one sort of...ends up at Taverna if you don't want to drive elsewhere. We'll be back but I always feel sort of underwhelmed by the experience.

Overall a good experience although the entrees were a bit disappointing. My wife had the Mushroom dish which was all sauce...albeit delicious it needed more pasta and mushrooms. I had the grilled shrimp which I felt was a bit small given the price. Our waitress was outstanding though.

Our waiter Aiden was awesome. He was busy, but didnt miss single requests from our table. Very friendly stuff, clean area, good ambiance. Food was very good. Only thing everyone needs to do just make a reservations. Last time we went without reservation and after waiting for 35 min we left, this time we made a reservation even for 3 ppl. Overall was a great experience.

The whipped ricotta appetizer alone was enough for me to want to go back. If you like ricotta, definitely get the whipped ricotta. There was plenty of it to go on the bread that came with it and also enough to add to my pasta entree. I had the Calamarata and bf had tbe Manicotti with a side of meatballs. The pasta was very good, especially with the added ricotta. We had plenty of food that we both took home leftovers for another meal. The meatballs were all beef, so that was pleasant for the bf who doesn't eat pork. The marinara sauce was flavorful, so we will definitely be back to try the pizzas. They had a seasonal Downeast cider on tap, so that was also a plus since we really enjoy Downeast ciders.

I only dropped one star because I called & noted on open table about a sparkler dessert for my husband birthday and they forgot the request. I even seen another party receive a sparkler with their dessert.

I have been to Taverna twice - absolute great experience both times. Salmon and Spicy Shrimp meals were delicious. Staff very helpful with food recommendations, friendly, and great balance between being attentive but not intrusive.

Taverna is a wonderful restaurant located in Newark that I absolutely love visiting. The food there is simply amazing, and the service is top-notch. If you happen to stop by, I would highly recommend trying out their handmade brick oven pizza - it's one of the best I've ever had! Additionally, their whipped ricotta is simply incredible, and definitely not to be missed. Overall, I would say that Taverna is a must-visit spot for anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience in Newark.

Excellent staff, and above and beyond management. I'm my first visit, I knocked my drink off the table, and they happily cleaned and replaced it unprompted. The food is excellent, I would recommend the Butterscotch custard to anyone who hasn't had the privilege to try it.Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible, easy street access
