We had to make that horrible decision to put our beloved lab down. I called our primary vet first. I was told they couldn’t find her file and when the file was found they would call me back. They called back 4 hours later informing me they were down a Dr. and couldn’t euthanize our dog this week. So I called VCA of Newark. Not only were they very sympathetic , but they offered to take her that day. They were there for us and our dog thru the entire process. We are so thankful that their staff and vets were so caring and gentle. If we get another dog, we are going to VCA and no longer using our vet that can never find the files.

DO NOT come here. our dog wasn’t feeling well and we took her here they prescribed antibiotics that were NOT needed for her condition. we realized this after she had a seizure for the first time in her life after this visit. The medication she prescribed was useless and she gave us NOTHING for the heart murmur she told us she had. The doctor made it seem like the heart murmur wasn’t a big deal and didn’t prescribe anything for it but it turns out it was a very severe case and our poor baby didn’t make it a few days later. Seems like they’re just money hungry to sell any meds they can and don’t actually care about animals. well they didn’t care about our dog for sure.

I recently had to put my cat down and I never thought I would get the amount of warmth and care from an animal hospital, that I did here. Everyone was so kind to us and the compassion showed. We received two heartfelt cards in the mail, expressing their condolences and it meant the world to both of us. When you have people that love their jobs and the people and animals that come with that job, and you see it, not just hear it, it is a really comforting feeling. I'll never bring my animals anywhere other than VCA Newark animal hospital. Outstanding and genuine. Kudos to all the staff! Thank you for being so so good!

Let me clarify my rating. Dr. Carothers and the rest of the staff are a 10, hands down! Here's why I give them 3 stars.... cost! As an example, it's $41.05 to have your pets nails clipped, really?! Thats highway robbery and absurd. They should be ashamed of themselves. Maybe, if they lower their fees they might get more customers. Has VCA checked out the economy? You should place in difficult situations.

I woke up to my dog having a hot spot on his neck and I immediately made an appointment at VCA Newark Animal Hospital. We had been here once before a few years ago for the same issue. Of course this all happened on a Saturday, so when we arrived, the Vet was extremely honest that they didn't have the staff to get the whole procedure done before they closed, which was pretty soon. He was trying to come up with multiple options that would work for us and our budget, and the health of my dog. We eventually decided on going to an animal hospital right over the line in PA and the vet even called for us to check on the prices, if they could take my dog, etc. To help out, the vet also gave my dog an calming medication to help for the car ride up to PA. Even though we weren't able to get my dog treated here, the caring nature of the vet and the staff and the fact they still went above and beyond to help us find a solution...I will 100% go back if ever needed.

We really like the staff here. It’s very clean and well maintained. The prices for vaccinations are a bit high.

I was on vacation when my dog caught an infection on her paw, it become very swollen and she could hardly walk. I called around the Newark area and a-lot of vets weren't taking new patient appts. Finally a friendly voice picked up the phone at VCA and they scheduled an appt the very next day. We took our dog in and everyone was very nice and accommodating. Dr Cruz checked my dog and examined her paw with extra care. She explained everything and answered all of our questions. She prescribed an antibiotic and within 3 days her swelling had gone down significantly. The dr office went above and beyond by checking up on my dog every 2 - 3 days including sending a txt to see how she was recovering. Appt cost was on the higher side $130 however included a month flea pill and definitely worth it! After one week my dog is back to normal. Thank you VCA and Dr Cruz

Took my dog in for an emergency because no other vet would take her same day and her ears were inflamed. They were just lovely! Everyone there was so kind and gentle with my fur baby. The vet came in and explained everything and broke down the bill before coming up with a treatment plan with me, which I really appreciated because other vets will just treat and hand you a huge bill, not VCA they will work with you and help you make the best choice. I will only be going here from now on. After an hour my dogs ears went from red to normal pink and she was so much happier. I can’t say enough good things about this place!

I've taken my three cats here for the past 14 years. It's true that there are less expensive veterinarians in the area, but every interaction I've had with everyone here has been really positive. They have always done their absolute best to care for my cats and present all of my options along with the potential risks and benefits. There have been times when being aggressive with testing and treatment has been in the cats' best interest, and there have been times when the stress and risks of certain testing and treatment options really wouldn't improve the cats' quality of life, and I genuinely appreciate that the veterinarians here are so open with that. They are extremely responsive to prescription refill requests, and while there are emergency appointments, they're usually able to work us into a regular appointment slot within a day or two if it's not urgent. Also, there are soft tissues in the exam rooms and nothing but compassion for pet parents facing heartbreaking situations, which I sincerely appreciate.
