This was the best field trip I've ever chaperoned! Five different learning stations, each with their own hands-on activity. The kids had such a blast! During lunch (and completely unprompted) they talked about everything they learned, swapped stories, and even argued about historical facts! Great time had for all: fourth graders, parent chaperones, teachers, and docents!

My niece had her baby shower here! It was the perfect setting and fit all the guests properly with room to walk around and mingle. The food and drinks were served buffet style in another room, which was nice too! They had a coffee & tea station with decorative urns to self-service. The food was AMAZING! Everything was really good, most guests went back for seconds ?The building is old but has lots of character. The front room has big windows for lots of natural sun light ? very cozy. The front door and entryway reminds me of an old farmhouse painting, that's been weathered and torn for decades. There is a small coatroom rack to the left side hallway and a few updated bathrooms that are private, as well as equipped for the handicap!I believe they can hold up to 70 guests- so if you are interested, this place is certainly very charming!!!

Thurs is a collection of 3 open homes dating from 1700 to 1772, the later being a National Historic Landmark. One is the homes was built and owned by one family since 1772 until it was purchaaed, restored and gifted along with the other two, to Winterthur. Closed in the early 2000's, it was relinquished to the donor and a trust and reopened as The Historic Homes of Odessa. The showpiece is The Corbit Sharp house, a 3 story Philadelphia mansion built in Delaware, but in my opinion the small frame home built between 1688 and 1720 is as charming. Built by someone of means, probably originally a 1 room up and down, the was an addition and center hall added by 1720. It features beautiful paneling and cupboard, and given the time it was built, it was in the middle of nowhere, the owner clearly had something to show off. I believe I know the builder of the first potion and perhaps the second, but cannot prove it. Tours Yes- Sun. Decorated as well as any during Christmas season. All are part of. Christmas in Odessa, the first Saturday of December along with other private homes in this killed town, originally a Dutch outpost in the New World.
