The staff here are the most compassionate, loving and caring human beings toward the future pets that are ready for adoption. 5 Stars are not enough.

We adopted two kittens from here last Nov. Mochi and Biscuit, (formally bohm and morales), have been a great addition to our family in Massachusetts. Thanks for allowing us to adopt them!!The people here really care about the animals, they recently called me to check up on the kittens, which shows that they truly care love of the animals they tend to.

I adopted two orange boys from this place over the weekend. The adoption process was smooth, the people working at the center were kind, knowledgeable, and courteous. I'm so happy to welcome my new furry friends (FKA Fry & Butterscotch) home, and they are settling right in!

This is the best shelter around. I lost my basset and a rescue Pitt about 10 years ago. I tried to rescue through Tri-state basset rescue, but because I didn't keep up with heartworm medicine, they declined me. I hated the vet that gave me a bad review and the rescue because my pets are my babies. Well, this rescue gave me the most wonderful, loving, sweet dog, and they didn't judge me. They are awesome. I still have my puppy she's 10 now, and she's up on her meds. So is my other basset, and we are a family. Recommend highly!

This place is absolutely amazing. Me and my husband adopted Bunny over a year ago and it was truly a perfect match. Everybody there is so sweet.

Synopsis and conclusion: If I could give a negative review I would. From the beginning they lied to me (back in May of this year.) Since this was not the dog I intended to adopt (I drove 2 hours to see a dog that should have been walked before our meeting) and DHA Rehoboth wanted to get a dog out of its shelters so I adopted a plan B dog. I was apprehensive but staff assured me multiple times, during the adoption process, my calls would be returned and they would make themselves available. At that time I had no reason not to trust them since I had adopted from them a decade ago. Within the first week I was calling; my family has had dogs for 20 years but I guess what this dog had experienced really messed him up; this dog was leaping over baby gates like a gazelle and breaking out of cages. I had to email and call multiple times over several days to have a conversation with the assistant manager; who didn't really help because I was already doing that and more. Also, this dog had 2 types of worms and the worst part was he was in a foster with an elderly woman, her husband and their elderly dog...potentially exposing them all. I spent hundreds of dollars for a 4-month course dewormer treatment but his GI tract has been permanently impacted. During his stay with us, weeks went on and I was presented with more behavioral challenges. Again, I would email the manager of the Rehoboth location as well as....I really don't know what this guy actually does for the organization (maybe just brings in money) but the director of philanthropy Daniel. I received one or 2 emails from the Rehoboth manager at the beginning but no one would return my calls and I wasn't being given advice or guidance as things intensified. As you can read from my older reviews, DHA was not doing what they said they were going to do. I think since they have joined forces with Delaware SPCA they have declined and you can see that with their participation in 'clear the shelter' events. The more I pushed for someone to call me, the more I was ignored and weeks and weeks went passed. I never cursed in any of my communications, I was never abusive, I was frustrated and becoming hopeless to where I actually wanted to return this dog. Seriously. How sad is that? I even cried in one of the voicemails because I was so overwhelmed and did I ever receive a phone call back?....no.There is no employee hierarchy, a clear lack of leadership and accountability within DHA. I didn't know who to call since no one was returning my calls. With a shot in the dark, I left a message for their executive director. Sadly, he has seemed to be less than helpful and yet another employee who sides with other employees without ever even having a conversation with the client. I have seen the decline in customer service during COVID; since employees have become insulated working with each other and seeing/talking to each other every day...it has created an 'us vs them' dynamic so the customer is never right anymore....hell the customer isn't even heard anymore. In his last email to me, he tried to twist things and put his feelings into the situation and made it about his staff. These people lack any empathy for what my family experienced and almost blamed me as a way to cover up their mistakes. We were left completely on our own. Also, during this time our other dog was diagnosed with cancer and died in October which DHA knew but didn't care. This pet adoption agency cares more about money than its animals or the people who adopt them. I have not been treated with respect. Since they couldn't 'fix the issue' by turning back time, I offered a financial remedy of a refund. The executive director was offended by my proposition. He responded defensively because he was trying to protect his staff. As I stated in my final response to him, I am just some nameless, faceless text on a screen to DHA. For what my family has gone through with this dog....anyone else would have returned him that first week. This organization does not care abou
