I have used John Liddy for the last 2 years. Im not saying he was always punctual but he got the job done and his price seemed fair. Im not sure what happed to john but he has fallen off the deep end. In July Igave him a $3500.00 deposit to service and repair my boat. He told me he ordered all the parts which he did not. He spent my money on drugs, alcohol and poor decisions! I filed a police report and the police said he would not respond, I told the officers I was told by a friend of his that called me, that he was in rehab at the Salvation Army. The officer said he would not bother him in rehab, that he would send my case to the states attorney to see if they would pick up charges.John burned a 2 year working relationship with me, he took advantage of me and literally stole 3500.00 from me! I was told by his friend that he would make it right as soon as he got out of rehab in 3 weeks, well that was almost 2 months ago and now his phone is shut off and he has not even attempted to make it right.I think John is a nice guy with a lot of problems, unfortunately for me his problems became mine when he took my money and used it for dugs and alcohol (words out of his own mouth).John is a great boat mechanic but he has some serious issues, you have been warned, If you chose to do business with him, it would be wise to not give him a dime until the job is completed!Service: Engine repair

I had a port Mercury Verado 300 fail on me, the first day of a week-long trip for spring break. As the primary professional mechanic on my 32 Renegade, I called John, but he was honest and apologized that he couldn’t look at it until the end of the week (5days away) due to his work schedule. I asked him if I brought the boat to him, could he make 20mins to help me troubleshoot, and he said no problem. After 45mins he told me what parts I needed and how to do the job. I went back and changed the lift pump and float switch in the FSM, (with a couple phone calls to John for help), and I was up and running later that evening and saved Spring Break. Over the past couple of years of owing a twin outboard boat, I do quite a bit of maintenance myself and John has been available and very willing to help with question that I might have. Fast forward to today I didn’t have time to troubleshoot a bad trim relay, and corrosion on a terminal that I missed, I called John and it was fixed within 24hrs. Due to John’s availability and knowledge he will be my go-to primary mechanic for my boat for the future.Services: General repairs & maintenance

Called. He came. Took my Honda outboard apart. Induced me to spend $2000 on parts. He had 'truck' probs. Would not ans phone or txts. Finally after 5 no shows, he came, partially assy engine and GHOSTED me. Engine was total loss due to him. He's incompetent or worse. No point in suing a ghost.Service: Engine repair

John came out to my boat to diagnose the issue. Put the muffs on the portside motor and started the other motor instead. Then said that he would get me an estimate that night never got it. Called him back the next day and said that I would have it that night. Well 4 day's later still no estimate. I think he just goes around looking at boats for $ 130.00 and does nothing

John won't answer the phone, he took me and my Friend Charles Irvin for !1000 and had the audacity to say he doesn't know the man, that is disrespectful and unprofessional. Now I know why he don't give receipts. John took the footer off my 200 Yamaha along with the carbs, when he returned a month to 3 weeks later he replaced the footer and the carbs, cranked up the motor and left. When I took the boat out the motor was hard to crank, the carbs were flooding, and the motor shut off 3 times trying to load it on the trailer, a month ago. John and I spoke. twice over the phone, said he was coming over to fix the problem, never showed up an now won't answer the phone. I found a mechanic who specializes in yamaha, he just dropped off the float bowls off two of the carbs John supposedly cleaned, they have white and red paint in them. These are not the carbs John took off my motor, he tried to get me to believe it was another shop. I don't play games with people, it is what I say it is and I have the float bowls in my backyard in my truck for anybody who don't believe what I'm saying. I wouldn't do a dog like John did meI'm 64 years old I don't play games and I don't lie on people. If you are wrong, straighten your wrong, don't take money from people then refuse to answer your phone. You know Norman and Charles, nobody has amnesia that bad!!!Service: Tune-ups

John is an exceptional and knowledgeable professional. He is very experienced, and a good communicator, usually giving me options to choose from, and offering expert advice as to the pros and cons of each choice. Highly recommended!!!Services: General repairs & maintenance

John simply amazing. He’s literally saved me twice on two separate occasions by coming to the dock to diagnose and fix my boat. And another time helping me while stranded under a bridge with another boat. He’s incredibly responsive, deliveries quality work and most importantly stands by his work. He has honest straight forward pricing. And to top it all off not only will he travel to you for an emergency but he’ll even come to your home for a normal service call too! I highly recommend John to ANYONE looking for a great marine mechanic, he’s the best in Tampa if not the entire state!

It is extremely difficult to find a good boat mechanic when I came across John I was excited because he had such positive reviews. At fist John came to my house diagnosed the issue and returned the next day to complete repairs. It was at that time john asked me to pay for the parts that he had purchased and would like to return a later day to complete the remaining repairs because he discovered a new problem. After a few days I reached out and he stated he would return that week. A week had gone by and I reached out a second time asking for an update john simply replied with just an emoji thumbs up. It was then i realized john was no longer interested in completing the service. John is extremely knowledgeable of boats and knows what hes doing but lacks professionalism and communication. I would of rated him 4 stars if he would of just said in the beginning he did not intend on returning rather than making me wait two weeks .
